With profound sadness, we announce the transition of Rev. Mother Norma Jean Pender, affectionately known as Rev. Mother. A trailblazer in gospel music and ministry, she was a founding member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA National) and served faithfully as the organization's Public Relations Director. Her legacy includes establishing the beloved annual "Come As You Are Musical" at the GMWA convention, a cherished tradition that touched countless lives.

Rev. Pender dedicated decades of service as Assistant Pastor (Emeritus) of the New Jerusalem Temple Baptist Church, where she ministered with unwavering faithfulness. Shortly after her arrival at AM1340 radio, "Rev. Mother", became a household name, earning the love and respect of the City of Detroit (and beyond) and gospel music enthusiasts worldwide.

At this time, no arrangements have been made. We will provide updates as they become available.

Please keep in prayer her beloved family, Bishop L. J. London and the New Jerusalem Temple Baptist Church family, the GMWA Detroit Chapter, her extended family that includes Bishops, Pastors, musicians, singers, and civic officials, her 1340 WEXL Detroit family, her faithful listeners in the city of Detroit, and gospel music lovers everywhere, as we reflect on the life of this remarkable servant of God.

May her legacy continue to inspire generations to come.
