Yes, the desert is beautiful, magnificent, and possesses a mysterious allure that draws you deeper in. But this is only because you haven’t lived in the desert or truly ventured into its heart. If you have lived in the desert or gotten lost there, you would deeply feel its cruelty. By then, perhaps only one thought would occupy your mind: “Get out of here, go somewhere with water and life.”
Many things in life, including friendship and love, appear deceptively beautiful from a distance but cannot bear close inspection. Once you get too close, the veil of beauty created by distance is torn away, revealing ugly scars and raw flesh beneath, startling you. At that point, you may no longer find it beautiful. Unless you possess a broader heart to accept it, understand it, and embrace it with greater tolerance, loving it truly. Therefore, it’s easy to fall in love with the West in your imagination, but loving the West in the reality of daily life is far more challenging.
