Views expressed in letters are those of the university community and not those of the Editorial Board. Been staying since 8pm and not leaving til the end. Trivia Night hosted by Dan. 3 gift cards, 5 rounds, 5 multipliers, 6 teams, and multiple chances to win passes. Of course, he Rick Rolled us with the penultimate question.

Shout-out to Staff writer Xander who absolutely carried the "Tickletastic" team (Leslie, Xander, Jiaming, Gabe, Michael, Imani). They totally would have won. And yes that was the team name.

Alderperson and NEIU Alum Jessie Fuentes was detained and handcuffed by federal agents inside the Humboldt Park Health’s emergency room on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, after demanding a judicial warrant for a detained person. She was later released outside the emergency room.

This confrontation comes a day after an immigration raid in Humboldt Park, according to ABC7 Chicago.

Some of the NEIU Independent team presented to FYE students at El Centro in late September. Students in the class will be working on an upcoming Journalism assignment that would involve first year students publishing in either the Independent or other print student media in the Student Media Board.

NEIU Independent staff can be invited to class visits in order to recruit and share with students all that we do in our campus newspaper.

🚨 Breaking News 🚨

Shots were fired this afternoon near Bryn Mawr & Drake. Chicago Police responded quickly to the scene. No injuries have been reported at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

Witnesses say multiple police units blocked off the area while officers spoke with community members. Authorities are urging people to stay alert and avoid the intersection until further notice.

This incident is not connected to the School.
