BREAKING: CHICAGO’S DIRKSEN FEDERAL BUILDING ON LOCKDOWN, FBI & OTHER AGENCIES ON SITE

The FBI is investigating as the Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse was placed on lockdown on Tuesday.

Agents were in route to the building as of 11am. The public is being asked to avoid the building for the time being.

A witness was told there was a person with a knife inside the building.

Witnesses said the incident appeared to have happened in the public area.

TRAGIC: 22 YEAR OLD MARCELA HERRERA WAS STRUCK AND KILLED BY A HIT AND RUN DRIVER SATURDAY NIGHT ONLY A MONTH AWAY FROM HER WEDDING DATE

A young woman was killed and the man she was engaged to was seriously injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Saturday night on the city's Southwest Side.

Marcela Herrera and her fiancé were set to get married next month. Now her family is faced with planning her funeral while police try to track down the person responsible for her death.

The crash happened near the intersection of South Ashland Avenue and West Cullerton Street. Two pedestrians were walking along Ashland Avenue when they were struck by a silver vehicle that fled the scene after the crash, Chicago police said.

Herrera's family said she had just finished working at the Tacos Y Tamales Festival in Pilsen. Her fiancé had just picked her up and they were walking to get dinner near Ashland and Cullerton when they were struck by a vehicle.

A 22-year-old woman was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, police said. She was identified as Marcela Herrera by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. A 21-year-old man was taken to a hospital in serious condition, CPD said.

No arrests have been made as Chicago police's Major Accidents Investigation Unit continues to investigate.

SHOCKING/TRAGIC: A WOMAN IS IN CUSTODY FOR ALLEGEDLY DROWNING A 1-YEAR-OLD IN LAKE MICHIGAN

Police said they rushed to the 7000-block of S. South Shore Drive on Friday at about 9:45 p.m. Investigators said a 31-year-old woman was in the water when they arrived. They later learned the woman allegedly drowned the 1-year-old boy.

Chicago Fire's Marine Unit recovered the boy. She was taken into custody. The infant was rushed to Comer Children's Hospital where he died.

It is unknown what happened in the moments leading up to the alleged drowning. The boy has not been identified.

Police are conducting a homicide investigation.

📰 18 PEOPLE SHOT, 4 KILLED IN RIVER NORTH DRIVE-BY LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT

“The shooting happened around 11 p.m. near the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue, outside Artis Restaurant and Lounge, as well as a Dunkin’ Donuts. A number of clubs and businesses are located in that area, and witnesses say they heard rapid fire and a car racing out of the area.

The victims of the shooting were rushed to several different area hospitals, witnesses telling WGN some police officers didn’t even wait for ambulances to get there and started driving victims to hospitals themselves.

According to police, at least 16 of the 18 victims ranged in age from 21 to 32. Five men and 13 women were shot.

A 24-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and two women were pronounced dead, police say. The specific ages of the two women killed were not given by police.

However, the family of one of the women killed identified her as 26-year-old Taylor Walker and shared a photo with WGN.”

Officer Krystal Rivera—a mother and respected tactical officer—was fatally shot by her partner, Officer Carlos Baker, during a gun recovery operation in Chatham.

“As a probationary police officer, Baker starred in viral videos on Tik-Tok that showed him dancing in uniform at the Sueños Music Festival in May 2023, generating millions of views. Another of his videos showed him playing along with an online trend using a police radio. In others, he’s seen wearing his police uniform and sitting in a department vehicle.

It was through Instagram that he met a woman who later reported that Baker flashed a gun at her in December 2022.

📰 MAN CHARGED WITH 3 MURDERS

Vilmer Alcaraz, 32, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Police said Alcarez was identified as the alleged gunman who fatally shot three men, ages 28, 34, and 38, on Nov. 10, 2023, in the 8300 block of S. Pulaski Street.

He was arrested on Friday by Chicago police and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
