HEARTBREAKING: MINNEAPOLIS SCHOOL SHOOTING: 2 CHILDREN KILLED, 17 INJURED

A gunman opened fire during the first Mass of the year at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

2 children dead (ages 8 & 10)
17 people wounded, most of them kids
FBI investigating as domestic terrorism + hate crime targeting Catholics

The 23-year-old suspect took their own life at the scene. Victims remain hospitalized, some in critical condition. His name was Robin Westman, also went by Robert Westman.

City leaders call this “incomprehensible violence” as families demand real change.

🚨 TARGET FIRES HUNDREDS FROM LITTLE VILLAGE WAREHOUSE OVER MEDICAL BENEFITS SCHEME

Hundreds of Target workers at the Little Village distribution center have been fired after allegedly exploiting a medical loan glitch.

⚠️ Employees say they paid only $50 on loans worth more than $3,000—then the rest of the balance disappeared.

💰 A so-called “ringleader” allegedly charged $200–$300 per person to run the scheme.

📉 Estimates say 400 to 700 workers lost their jobs, costing Target over $1 million.

Now Target is scrambling to replace the positions in a major hiring push.

😱 PARENTS SHOCKED AS A GUN WAS DISCOVERED ON THE FIRST DAY BACK AT WHITNEY YOUNG HIGH SCHOOL

A gun was discovered at Whitney Young High School during entry screening on the very first day of school.

The weapon was stopped before entering the building, but the incident is sparking serious concerns about safety as CPS kicks off the new year.

The school’s principal, Rickey Harris, sent a letter to parents and guardians on Monday notifying them that a firearm was found during the school’s standard entry screening.

“The gun was immediately secured and did not proceed further into the building,” Harris said in the letter. “Just to be clear, there appears to be no indicated threat towards anyone in our school community.”

MOM HIDING WITH BABY IN CLOSET FATALLY SHOOTS HOME INTRUDER IN JOLIET

A 36-year-old parolee, identified as Shelby Hurd of Chicago, was fatally shot after breaking into a Joliet home Friday night on the 7000 block of Hadrian Drive.

👩‍👦 The homeowner hid in a closet with her baby before firing when Hurd entered the bedroom.

🪛 Police say he was wearing gloves, carrying a screwdriver, and had a history of burglary convictions.

⚖️ Hurd was on parole since February. This is Joliet’s second homicide of 2025.

💔 31 YEAR OLD GABRIELA OCHOA IS BEING MOURNED AFTER SHE WAS SHOT AND KILLED DURING AN ATTEMPTED ROBBERY IN BRIDGEPORT

A 31-year-old woman, identified as Gabriela Ochoa, was shot and killed Saturday night during an attempted robbery on Chicago’s Southwest Side.

📍 The attack happened around 8:40 p.m. in the 800 block of West 27th Street.

🚗 Police say the suspect, in a dark-colored sedan with a group of people, tried to take her belongings before shooting her in the chest.

🏥 Ochoa was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

⚠️ No arrests have been made. Area One detectives are investigating.

SAME OFFICER WHO ACCIDENTALLY KILLED HIS FEMALE PARTNER IS FACING A NEW ACCUSATION: ASSAULTING A FEMALE OFFICER DEMANDING SHE DELETE PHONE VIDEOS AND THEN TRYING TO GET RID OF THE EVIDENCE.

Earlier this summer, Officer Krystal Rivera was accidentally killed by her partner, Officer Carlos Baker, during a tactical chase—her death ruled a homicide and still under COPA review.

Now, just two months later, the same officer is facing new accusations. At a Wicker Park bar late Sunday, Baker and another unnamed woman allegedly confronted and assaulted another off‑duty female officer, demanding she delete phone videos before striking her in the face. The victim sustained a split lip and needed stitches.

To make matters worse, as news of the bar incident broke, Baker reportedly called a nearby business, identified himself as an investigating officer, and tried to access their surveillance footage, despite being a suspect. When asked by a reporter if they had the tape, he allegedly hung up.

Why this matters now:

Two serious incidents in 8 weeks, with no charges yet. COPA is investigating, but social media is asking, is that enough?

The man involved still has police powers and access to a weapon. People are asking, is that oversight or oversight failure?

Rivera’s family has called repeatedly for release of bodycam footage and personnel files and are still waiting.

BREAKING: MAN CHARGED FOR DRAGGING HIS YORKIE DOG, IT WAS TIED TO THE BACK OF HIS TRUCK SO IT COULD “RELIEVE ITSELF”

Authorities say 34-year-old Vianey Madrid Segura tied his 5-year-old Yorkie to the hitch of his pickup “so she could relieve herself,” then drove off, leaving the tiny dog to be dragged, badly injured, and bleeding along the road.  

WHAT HAPPENED:
• Around 8 p.m. on August 1, deputies stopped the truck and found the Yorkie tethered and gravely wounded.
• Officers rushed her to an animal hospital; she was later released on August 2 to a relative.
• Madrid-Segura was cited for driving without a license, arrested on August 6, and charged with Class 4 felony aggravated animal cruelty.

He appeared in court on August 11, where a judge denied pretrial detention.

AN ILLINOIS SUBSTITUTE TEACHER HAD S** WITH AN 11 YR OLD STUDENT DURING PLAY DATES, POLICE SAY

According to WCIA, the victim was a student in Ms. Bardfield's classroom at Hope Academy in Decatur, Illinois.

She has pleaded guilty to having s** with the 11-year-old student during what was described as "play dates" at her home, reports said.

Former Decatur Public Schools employee Alley Bardfield, 34, is now set to be sentenced in September after pleading guilty.

According to a lawsuit filed, the student visited her home in Mt. Zion for multiple "play dates" in 2023 and in 2024.

"The victim’s mother reported noticing her son acting differently after a visit to Bardfield’s house. As a result, she checked her son’s phone and social media. In a follow up discussion with her son, he disclosed having had a s*xual encounter with Bardfield while a guest at her Mt. Zion residence on March 29, 2024," Mt. Zion police said in a statement last year.

WCIA reported the boy’s mother found text messages between him and Ms. Bardfield on his phone including $700 that was sent to him through CashApp.

"The victim is a 6th grade student with DPS District 61. Alley Bardfield was a long-term substitute teacher assigned to his 6th grade class," Mt. Zion police said.

Bardfield has reportedly been let go from her position following the arrest.

She also admitted in police interviews to having s*x with the student, giving him money in CashApp and sending him n**e photos on SnapChat, according to WCIA.

Bardfield faces up to 40 years in prison, reports said.
