Tomorrow Mourning Bridging Life and Loss with Love
Grief Support Specialist
Assisting Organizations with Proactive Bereavement Policies My name is Kimberly Rich.

I have been an educator for the past 24 years, and earned my doctoral degree from Creighton University in 2024, with a research focus on organizational support of the bereaved. My journey with grief started following the sudden loss of my mother in 2021. It was then that I first recognized the power of relationship in grief, and also realized the ways that we can fail to support one another in tim

es of grief. It was in the coming months that I accepted that my mission would be to improve how we approach death, dying and supporting those who are grieving. I am a trained death doula, trained by Deathwives in the winter of 2024. I volunteer with a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing expert support for those grieving, working with small groups and co-facilitating a book club focused on processing grief through fiction and non-fiction text. I believe in supporting anyone in need and openly partner with people of all backgrounds. We are all going to die, we are all likely to grieve…ALL are welcome here! I am the mother of four, three sons and one daughter, and married to Ben, a man whose generosity can not be measured. We currently live in a suburb of Chicago, IL but jump on every opportunity we have to travel. It brings me great joy to take care of my people, to laugh with my people, and to hear their most cherished life stories. If you are not already one of my people I hope for the opportunity to welcome you into the tribe.

When it comes to saying goodbye, the little details matter most. 💜 As a death doula, one of the services I offer that I hold closest to my heart is memorial planning - making sure a life is celebrated in a way that feels personal, intimate, and true to the person we love.

Because sometimes, honoring a life looks like music, poetry, or a special ritual…and sometimes, it looks like serving their favorite snack, Scooby Snacks.

I take care of the logistics and “hard bits,” so families can focus on what matters most: grieving, sharing memories, and beginning to heal.

✨ I also help people plan their own memorials while they’re alive and well, because what better way to make sure your story is told the way you’d want it to be?

I always love our book club conversations because somehow, we end up talking about so much more than the book. 📚💛

This month, we’ll be reading The Correspondent by Virginia Evans, a story told through letters that explores the relationships we build, the things we carry with us, and the ways connecting with another person can change how we see our own lives.

Join me October 20th at 6:00 pm at my space in Batavia. As always, I’m looking forward to a thoughtful conversation, new perspectives, and plenty of good company.

And the best part? It’s free! Space is limited, so DM me if you’d like to join us. I’d love to have you there! 💛

There’s a lot more to me than being a death doula and grief educator!

Swipe through and see how many of my “fives” you can relate to!

And then tell me: What are FIVE things I should know about you? 👇

A will and an estate plan are incredibly important. But they’re not the whole picture.

One thing I’ve found is that many people don’t realize how much of end-of-life planning happens outside of those legal documents.

Your estate plan can make sure your assets and legal wishes are taken care of. End-of-life planning gives you a chance to talk through all of the personal details that make your wishes yours.

The people you want around you. The things that bring you comfort. The music you want to hear. The scents you love. The kind of gathering you’d want your family to have. The stories you hope they’ll tell.

These are the things that can be easy to overlook because, well, they don’t feel quite as urgent as writing a will.

But once you start thinking about them, you realize how meaningful they are.

And you don’t have to figure it all out at once. End-of-life planning is simply a way to have these conversations while you have the time and the opportunity to make your wishes known.

Estate planning and end-of-life planning aren’t either/or. They work together.

And putting both in place is one of the most thoughtful things you can do for yourself and the people you love. 💛

Grief can be heavy. But sometimes, the love we carry for someone we’ve lost can be turned into something gentle for someone else.

This Grief Awareness Day, I’m inviting you to turn that love into a quiet act of kindness.

Buy a stranger’s coffee. Send dinner to a friend. Donate to a cause your person cared about. Leave flowers on a doorstep. Pay for someone’s groceries.

No announcement. No recognition. No expectation of thanks.

Just a small way to let the love you carry keep moving forward.

What would you add to this list? Share your ideas in the comments so we can all find more ways to quietly pass kindness on. ♥️

A big day for this new chapter ♥️

I officially celebrated my new Batavia space with the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, alongside April from April Waldrop - Yoga for Mental Health. I’m so happy to be sharing this space with her, and I love that we got to celebrate this new journey together!

A heartfelt thank you to the Batavia Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Schielke for helping us mark the occasion, Batavia MainStreet for including us in your amazing community, and Gather Bakery for the cutest cookies featuring both of our logos (almost too cute to eat. Almost.) 🍪, and Start Something Studio for your support and encouragement!

There’s something really special about opening a door to a new space and realizing how many people helped you get there. I’m grateful for every one of you and so looking forward to where this new chapter takes us!

Grief doesn’t require a personal relationship.

We can grieve people we’ve never met because their work, their words, their music, or simply their presence in the world became part of our lives.

Sometimes a celebrity holds a piece of our childhood. Sometimes their music carries us through a season we’ll never forget. Sometimes they simply represent something we deeply value.

So if Dolly Parton’s passing has left you feeling unexpectedly sad, let yourself grieve. You don’t need to explain it or justify it.

Grief is personal. And there’s room for all of it. ♥️

You may think your life is ordinary. You may wonder who would want to read your stories. But the details of your life, the lessons you’ve learned, the memories you carry, the moments you might consider insignificant…they can mean everything to the people who love you.

I love this quote from How to Read a Book by Monica Wood because it captures so much of why legacy work matters to me.

Writing your story gives your loved ones the chance to know you in a deeper way, even long after you’re gone.

Your story is worth telling 💙

Send this to your friend who just gets it!

Grief is weird, but good friends make it a little funnier 🖤
