Review by Amy Patricia Meade

Boasting both views of the falls and of an absolutely stunning Marilyn Monroe, “Niagara” (1953) – like 1945’s "Leave Her to Heaven" - is a rare Technicolor noir.

Monroe, in her first leading role, plays Rose Loomis, the femme fatale to Joseph Cotten's war hero, George Loomis. Modern audiences, however, might question whether Rose is the victim of jealousy, control, and abuse or whether George and Rose’s relationship was simply toxic.

Jean Peters is wonderful as the new-ish wife on a belated honeymoon who gets looped into the Loomis's troubles.

The sharp cinematography and the vacation atmosphere enthrall, while a tightly-written script maintains the proper balance between humor and tension. A must-see for classic movie fans or those who love crime-inspired travelogue.
