Save this post for later! ⭐️ Protein doesn’t have to come from meat. There are so many great sources of protein that come from other food sources, including plant based ones! 🌱 It’s important to make sure toddlers and kids eat protein sources each day (although, it does NOT have to be the focus).

🥨 Does your kiddo love to snack snack snack? Protein can help us feel full. So, reaching for a box of crackers or crunchy puffy snacks might not do the trick to satisfying hunger until the next meal. Similarly, a meal containing mostly pasta or bread might leave toddler wanting more food an hour later.

This post contains non-meat ideas for baby and toddler snacks and meals. How would you create a meal or snack using one or more of the foods on this list? Let me know in the comments!

Easy veggie grain bowl for lunch today 🥑
This took 30 minutes and is perfect for dinner, too! You can add a protein like chicken or ground beef if you prefer :)

Roasted Cauliflower:
Chop up a head of cauliflower and toss it in olive oil, Japanese BBQ sauce, and a splash of coconut aminos or soy sauce. Roast at 400 F for 30 min.

While that roasts…

Quinoa:
Cook 1 cup of quinoa (I used tri-color). When it’s done, stir in:
🧈 a pad of butter
🧄 garlic powder
🧅 onion powder
🌿 optional: ground ginger
🧂 salt and pepper
❤️ a little more BBQ sauce + coconut aminos for flavor.

Add your quinoa to a bowl and top with the roasted cauliflower plus whatever you’ve got on hand!
I added microwave steamer bag peas, avocado, and sesame seeds 🙌🏼

So simple. So good.

My thoughts and feelings today: I don’t wanna cook! ☀️ It’s summer, it’s hot, and my kids wanted to play outside the whole morning.

So when I feel like cooking, I don’t cook! You can totally throw together a nutritious meal without turning on the oven or stove:

Steamer bag edamame (leftover from dinner, you know if you saw my last reel!), baby carrots, pretzel sticks, Colby jack cubes, and strawberries 🍓

It has protein, fiber, fat, and carbs. 🙌🏼 balanced enough for a chill summer day if you ask me 😉

What my 4 and 2 year old ate in a day 🍴

Breakfast: frozen turkey sausage, sheet pan Greek yogurt pancakes (check the Reels tab!), and syrup made with mixed berries 🍓
Lunch: turkey & cheese tortilla roll ups, sugar snap peas with hummus, and oranges 🍊
Dinner: salmon, sushi rice balls, and blueberries 🫐

Was it perfect? Nope.
Was it balanced, filling, and full of variety? Yes! 🙌

They got protein at every meal, some fiber and color with fruits & veggies, carbs to keep them going, and even some healthy fats (thanks, salmon!). No one asked for snacks right after meals, and both kids left the table satisfied, and that’s a win in my book 👏

Every day looks a little different over here, but this one felt like a sweet spot between “easy for me” and “nourishing for them.”

Dinner that lets you stay outside until the last minute? Yes, please. 👏🏼

Here’s the easiest make ahead meal so you can prep when you have time (before the kids wake up, during naptime, whenever). Then just pop it in the oven before dinner while you’re outside soaking up the sun and playing the day away. ☀️

Quick Prep Pasta Bake:
- 1 8oz box chickpea or lentil pasta (cooked)
- 1 lb ground beef (cooked & seasoned)
- 1 jar of your favorite pasta sauce
- A handful (or two) of shredded mozzarella and some Parmesan

Mix it all together, pour into a casserole dish, top with a little extra cheese, and refrigerate until ready to bake. Bake at 350 F, covered, for about 35-45 minutes until bubbly.

🧡 Bonus: Add a tray of veggies! I did carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower — just chop, toss in oil & seasoning, and roast while the pasta bake cooks (might take a little longer than the pasta).

No standing over the stove while your kids beg to go outside. Just press start, and go play ❤️

A quick no-cook breakfast idea! I’m taking a little break from posting but thought I’d throw out another idea for busy mornings 💜

💜 .restore açaí powder mixed into vanilla Greek yogurt, plus sprinkles. Colorful, and so delicious! (Use code KELLYR20 for 20% off of your Nature Restore order)
💜 Hard boiled eggs from 🥚 They come pre-peeled to make your morning even easier! I cut these with a crinkle cutter.
💜 Whole wheat toast with peanut butter and slices of banana. Another carb + protein boost.

Nutritious, balanced, toddler approved 👏🏼👏🏼
