We’re excited to announce that our film “The Show!” is an Official Selection of the Chicago Onscreen Local Film Showcase, which is part of the Movies in the Parks program. That means that you can see our film, and other beautiful Chicago-made films, in the park for FREE!

✨ Introducing the 2025 whatever spectrum media collective teen film camp members! ✨

This is our first year running a film camp while making a professional film. This is all an experiment in what it means to work, care, + make collectively. (and we’re learning!). We believe in building long-term relationships that benefit us both artistically and as humans. We work to build collaborations that allow youth to transition into leadership positions. Young people that started in the collective at 14 are now running the camp 🥹. We know that all people in a collective have the power to teach and to learn.

Camp day 4! We start shooting our film in less than a week !☺️🤩

We spent the morning developing and troubleshooting our tech plan 💻🎧👕 and our actors and directors did an on location rehearsal. 🌱🚶🐿️ (Shout out to camp participant Amina for some of today’s 🔥 photos!)

In the afternoon, we welcomed Peter Hawley, Director of the Illinois Film Office and professor at Loyola University. 👨‍🏫📸
He shared his journey to becoming a filmmaker and educator, and reminded us: “It takes 10 years to become an overnight success.”

We feel grateful to be planting seeds and starting to watch some of them grow! Inspired to push on and see what 10 years brings us. ❤️‍🔥

Day 3 of film camp‼️📽️

We started with our High-Low check in 🩵 Then got back to work on production design and digital graphics 🎨💻

Props shared their breakdown with the group, and wardrobe showed final outfit choices 👗 and we completed the script breakdown 🎬

Later, we learned about shot types and camera movements 🎥

Then wrapped up by finishing our camper bios for the whatever spectrum site, coming soon…👀

Day 2 of pre-production complete‼️

Today we finished our script breakdown!

Production design is coming together 🎨 💻

Our actors spent time working on blocking and pacing, getting into the rhythm of each scene 🗣️

Wardrobe pulled looks, and we ordered makeup. 💄

We are making progress! Can’t wait for tomorrow ✌️🔥

Another successful camp meeting! 😁💖

Today was the Collective’s first official day in pre-production for our upcoming film! 🎬

We started the day at Lifeline Theatre with a quick check in then signed our group contract, created by and for the Collective. 🤝

We shared personal collages that show who we are ✨ Then discussed our favorite film stills and the visual language of mise-en-scène. 🎞️

After a sandwich party, we split into groups to work on production design and script breakdowns, while actors and directors worked to transition off script. 🎭

We’ve completed our first official camp meeting! 🙌 We’re off to a beautiful start, and it was so fun connecting with our newest collective members! ✨🫶

We started things off with Exquisite Co**se, showing off the Collective’s storytelling and creativity skills. Then we discussed the meaning of collectivity and did a fun mycelium themed string circle.🍄🌱

After that, we explored pre- and post-production roles through a competitive Kahoot game 🧠 and watched The Show! for inspiration as we introduced this summer’s new film project. 🌞🎬

We closed out our day with a reflective high, low activity. ❤️

Can’t wait for our next meeting‼️
