Today has been a surreal start to the day.

I have not been sleeping well due to some focus needed on our international business in the USA. (we are expanding) - this of course has had an impact on my immune system and my health is suffering too. Therefore I I was late!

Feeling guilty and flustered I entered the studio at KTN news this morning to appear on the Your Money show.

I got mic'd up and took my place on the set.

There in front of me, the Daily Nation was open at the exact page where I was being featured. A 2-page spread, in the most widely read business newspaper in the country.

At first I felt overwhelmed. Then excitement. Then a feeling of sadness and a pang of pain.

But, I was about to be on air, so had to gather myself quick n fast and put my thoughts behind me. Game on. Then we were on AIR. LIVE.

Now, as I sit here back in my office... Reflecting on the past 17 years, I have those same feelings washing over me.

Being an entrepreneur is tough. It's lonely and there's no one to keep us accountable except for yourself.

When things don't go your way, we have no one to blame, (the boss, the market, the suppliers) no one.

You have to take the losses as well as the wins. People generally focus on the wins. However I can tell you, there's nothing more that teaches us about life, than the losses.

My overwhelming feeling of pain comes from knowing what it's taken to get here, and how much blood, sweat and tears its taken.

The amount of broken relationships, fights and arguments with team members and loved ones.

The amount of struggle and begging it's taken just to get paid. The amount of time sacrifice (often 80-100 hour weeks) it's taken.

The amount of people that stole, conned and manipulated me to get something from me.

However, what keeps me going is mindset. Putting all that behind me and looking forward with optimism. Focusing on my WHY.

My 'why' is stronger than my need for stability. So I keep on going. That brings the feeling of excitement.

The excitement comes from knowing that growth takes pain. No matter what part of your life, if you want to grow, you will have to break down barriers.

A note... If I may....

I have faith in the future and us all the best.

Sitting here thinking about what may come...for me and for you...

Every one has his ups and downs, it's part of the journey...

We're affected by all things, cross fire, sniper, and machine gunfire, sometimes damn right explosions, often all at the same time,sometimes far away, sometimes in our back yard.

We feel that things are going amazing on one side and crap on the other. Up and down. Certain yet confused.

Often we forget about the amazing things in our lives that we take for granted. Drowned by the the thing that's so close to our nose. Zoomed in so much we forget the bigger picture.

A simple 'how are you' a 'did you have a good day' or 'what did you win' ? A constant person, circle or tribe cheering by your side...

The little things... The important things... The small things... But the things that matter. Means more than the bigger picture, yet means so little.

What inspires you? What drives you? What do you want?

One deals with daily life in our own ways, and I appreciate that.

For ever, stay beautifully you.

How I used systems and processes to make a Return on Investment of over 5000% over the past 15 years.

That means for every $1 I put into my business, I would receive $5000 back!

In 2003 when I first started in business, I had many challenges. I would advertise my business (using various methods - that’s not really important) and then I would get phone calls asking about my products and services.

Each phone call or email I received from the Ads, I called leads.

Now, that was great, until suddenly I realised the cost for each lead.

Hear me out - if the cost of the ad was $500 (50,000 KES) and the ad generated me 50 leads, then each lead would cost me 500/50 = 10 USD or 1000 KES per lead.

What would happen though, is that I would receive a call, and answer any questions that person had, and if they didn’t buy then, I was TOO BUSY to follow up.
So if I received 50 enquiries, and only 2 converted to a sale, it would have cost me 250 USD or 25,000 KES per sale. That was expensive!!

And the other 48 leads I got…? Well…that was an issue also…because...

I would eventually lose the lead, or the contact details and not call the person back.

If I made a note of the number and the enquiry in my diary, soon enough, I would forget to call them back, because my ad was bringing in more enquiries.

That system was flawed, and I saw myself losing money.

What could I do?

Had I had a system or process of managing those leads, so that

1) I wouldn’t lose the details of my prospects
2) I could automatically follow up with them (without doing it manually)
3) provide them more information about my products i.e. send product info (without doing it manually)
4) only talk with people that were truly interested in my products and services. (Saving time)
5) Manage my pipeline so I would always be focused on closing, up selling or cross selling
6) be reminded to contact a customer who was not interested a few months ago,

I would simply, MAKE MORE MONEY.

3) provide them with more information about my products i.e. send product info (without doing it manually) ollow up with my leads. Ensure that I am only focused on converting customers who are interested whilst keeping on top of prospects who were not quite ready at the time.

This exact time 10 years ago. I suffered two strokes and lost the ability to use my voice and my right arm.
I'm grateful to still be here, and thankful to have retained the same fighting spirit that helped me to fully recover.

A shout out to those of you that were there for me during that tough time.
The past decade has been a roller coaster, involving living in at least 5 different countries on 4 continents.

The immense personal development and learning journey I went through and am still learning every day.
Many many losses and even more lessons to have learned from.

I'm thankful for the people in my life those who've been there throughout as well the ones that came and left 😍

Most of all I'm grateful for my family and the ups and downs we've been through together. The most important thing is that we are still together and love each other more than ever.

Here's to the next decade. Goal setting wasn't difficult this year. There are so many things to learn still and so much to achieve and give back. So much more to change and so much growth needed in so many aspects of my life.
Here's to you. I wish you all the best for the coming decade and wish you all success and good vibes.

I feel kinda stupid and ignorant right now, but at the same time angry. I don't usually post about this, however I'm really upset right now.
Here's the short version... But it's part of a much bigger story. Bigger than you or me.
After a year I visited my favourite beach on the mainland of Dar es Salaam, #tanzania, I was so excited and couldn't wait to head into the water.
Recently I've been made aware of the impact of #climatechange and I truly believe that it's time for #climateemergency - it's affecting our daily lives and unbeknown to me (embarrassingly) it's been getting worse throughout my life.
As I approached the ocean, I immediately realised that the water was different.
I started to wade in and immediately my feet was tangled in plastic debris.
I looked closer and saw plastic everywhere. From wrappers, to caps, to bottles, to almost every kind of one use plastic known to the region.
I was hit with a powerful emotion that made me sad. Sad for us as the human race.
My message is simple and mostly as a documentation for myself. Please be aware of your own personal impact on the #environment.
Think about your personal consumption and if you have to use single use plastics, please be aware of where you place the waste.
Leaders in our communities need to voice this and be louder about it. Too many people are unaware of how they impact their own lives.
This is gonna hit us hard, and it's already too late.

Let's make a change.
