Shout out sa inyo!

Minsan ma rerequire ka pang mag overtime or weekend works.

Although it looks very bad on the developer’s perspective or individual contributor. I recently understood why some leadership had to do this kind of approach.

Recently, at a networking event, I had conversations with several VPs, Directors, and Managers about how large initiatives are positioned and sold internally and externally. One insight became very clear: data strategy often operates much like enterprise sales.

Leaders are under constant pressure to retain clients, protect revenue, and secure future work. To do that, they frequently lead with optimism—promising outcomes, timelines, or capabilities before the full technical complexity is understood. In many cases, these commitments are made to preserve trust and momentum with stakeholders who control budgets.

The intention is rarely to bypass developers or technical teams. Rather, it’s a response to the reality that leadership must keep the pipeline active and the lights on. An initial working version becomes a trust-building mechanism—a signal that the organization can deliver—while the technical details are addressed in parallel.

This is where strong data leadership is critical. Sustainable success comes from translating business ambition into technical reality early, aligning expectations, and ensuring that delivery teams are part of the conversation before promises become commitments.

Kaya sa mga devs jan or individual contributor, alam ko nakaka badtrip ito paminsan (OR MADALAS), pero let’s just take it as a good challenge or problem. This means a good busy din. Wag lang sobra LOL. Also, good thing to have a boss who gets you more projects and experience na stressfull paminsan haha.

Personally, I had experience on this kind of scenarios. I am very lucky to have managers and leaderships na reasonable. Sometimes, I really have to work outside of working hours, staying late and early mornings. However, if hindi naman din busy for critical projects ay super flexible din naman ng ating mga boss.

So kayo? Anong mga personal experience nyo about this?

US Master's Degree Student na SANA (STORY)

Last Year, I am supposed to start my masters in data/management at Lake Forest Graduate School of Management sa Amerika. That will be a 100% sponsorsed sana ng current company ko that time. Accepted na and naka enroll na ako and na meet ko na yung mga admins and profs for schedule ng class at orientation…

The only reason na naisip ko why I want the master's is syempre para sa pera. I want more income in the future. Plus target ko sana mag management din one day and the schooling for MBA will surely help.

Both are top companies from their industries. Finance industry yung isa and Insurance naman yung isa. Both offers are surprisingly unexpected. Way much higher sa ni aaim ko that time once matapos ko yung master sana.

Let's cut it short! I accepted the offer and na stretch pa natin ng kaunti pataas yung current offer.

I tried to negotiate if they have the same program for masters reimbursement, sadly wala. So I have to notifiy the school as well na hindi na ako tutuloy sa program. Since pa start pa lang naman.

One thing I notice nung nakapasok na ako sa work, some of my colleague na mas junior sakin had their masters already. We have the same job and probably same range ng pay. (Reddit source and research)

Kaya napaisip ako na siguro sa sunod ko na lang gawin yung program since yung first reason naman ng pag masters ko sana is higher pay and title which is na provide na ni company. Also… I am checking for some managerial roles outside the company and my current pay is on the same range. So for now… I think okay na muna ako.

However… I really still want to have it. I will just wait for the right time and the budget Kasi ayoko din mag loan for it.

Maybe one day/isang araw matupad din ito. For now certifications muna paunti unti haha! Sabi nga ni lola Nidora (Sa Tamang Panahon)

Advice and Recommendations (From my personal knowledge and experience):
(Comment kayo for more from your experience din guys para makita ng mga members different insights)

Advice ko sa mga gusto mag master. GO 100% for it! Lalo if meron kang budget or support. That is something na hindi mawawala sayo and madadala mo kahit san ka magpunta or mag apply.

Pero kung goal mo is for your pay to go up, try mo muna apply sa ibang company. Maybe they can provide dun sa goal mo if money increase lang yung target mo. Kasi job hop can really bump your pay more than 20% or sometimes almost 100%

Sa mga may plano naman magturo in the future… unti untiin nyo lang until matapos nyo. Masters will make more money sa teaching. (Thanks kay source for sharing)

Push nyo to.
