Teaching myself stick welding, any tips?
Using a Lincoln AC-225 at 75 amps and 3/32 6011 to weld this plate on. Only my 4th or 5th time stick welding and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. Any constructive criticism? Is 6011 a good rod for this use case or would 7018 be better? Or any other type of rod, for that matter? No formal welding training at all, so anything helps!

The chute crank on my small snowblower had bent near the handle and kept slipping whenever I rotated the discharge chute. I cut away the damaged section, fabricated a new 1/2 inch round bar handle section, and welded it to the original shaft with four passes. I added a small 3/16 inch steel collar around the joint for reinforcement. After checking the gear engagement, the chute rotates smoothly from side to side without the crank flexing. The final welds were left unpainted and fully visible.

The wheel fork on my small hay rake had cracked near the axle mount and the wheel started sitting crooked. I removed the damaged fork, fabricated a replacement from 2 inch square tubing, and welded a 1/4 inch steel axle plate to the end with six passes. I added a triangular gusset between the fork and axle plate to keep the assembly square. After installing the wheel, I checked that it rolled straight and tracked evenly across the ground. The final welds were left unpainted and fully visible.

i need help
i’m 18m and i’m in trade school right now learning how to weld.I came to ask about like pretty much everything about this weld and what’s wrong with it.For context it’s 7018 vertical 3F.Im a rather tall guy at 6’3 and i struggle a lot to find a good spot especially in a booth where the light is shining up top through my helmet to where i can’t see so i look sideways but then i can’t see my puddle at all so i end up just going into random places and praying i have an ok pattern.and this wouldn’t really be an issue if i had proper equipment like a good helm but my head is just really big yk.Anyone struggling with is or has struggled with it in the past? and if so lmk what yall did to fix this issue please.
