✨Millennials loved Hilary Duff as a role model. Gen Z loves her as a vintage aesthetic✨
Social cues, the awkwardness of not knowing what parts of you are worth showing, first kiss. Music that our Walkman’s and silver 3 disk CD player had on repeat. Millennials grew up with the same troubled and unsure way to simply be ourselves. We didn’t have social media. I CAN NOT EMPHASIZE THAT ENOUGH. Lol. (Do we still say lol?)
The similarity is in the emotional connection. Both generations see Hilary as authentic, comforting, and effortlessly cool. Her style, music, and persona still feel accessible rather than manufactured — which is rare in any era of celebrity.Memes that don’t have the full sentence behind them, old interview clips pulled with no context, tiktok trends with no lore. These things aren’t to be looked down on, it’s simply the truth. The way Hilary Duffs music is digested is not just from the point of view of 2003. We see recaps of talking heads that give us preconceived notions of the meaning of a song. Tell us how we should interpret it. Art can and should be seem in many forms. The same way I love Aerosmith. (They are ollllld school but you catch my vibe). Is the same way Gen Z is looking at HD.
What the 2 different generations have in common is emotional connection. We see Hilary as authentic, comforting, and effortlessly *cool*. Her style, music, and overall vibe feels down to earth. Nothing over flashy or just for the thrill of fame.
✨Hilary Duff is back at the right time. On her own terms. She broke thru.✨
