Big Shift: We’re Moving to Substack: https://whatteachershavetosay.substack.com/

After a lot of reflection, we’ve decided to close this Facebook group at the end of May.

We’re shifting the conversation to our new home on Substack:

Why? Because we want more depth, less noise, and a space built for longform thinking, real dialogue, and community without the algorithm getting in the way.

On Substack, you’ll get:

1️⃣ Articles + audio from the What Teachers Have to Say podcast
2️⃣ Thoughtful conversations in the comments
3️⃣ A clean space to think, reflect, and push back on the mess of modern education

If you still prefer Facebook, no problem—I’ll continue sharing content on my Mr. Carr on the Web page.
https://www.facebook.com/mrcarrontheweb

And don’t worry—if you follow the podcast in Apple, Spotify, or your favorite app, nothing changes. You’ll still get new episodes right where you listen.

If this group has ever made you think, laugh, or feel less alone—come join us there. That’s where the next chapter begins.

What Teachers Have to Say is a publication where sharp pedagogy meets soul. In my first classroom, we drew constellations in chalk and shaped spelling words with wood chips. Now I teach AI.

This piece traces the arc from my early days in a public Waldorf school to standing in front of educators today, pulling back the curtain on artificial intelligence. It’s about rhythm. Presence. What we risk losing when we chase speed over soul—and what we can still preserve if we pay attention.
It’s one of the most personal essays I’ve written. I hope it meets you where you are.

I hope you'll enjoy the article.

How a Waldorf Classroom Prepared Me to Teach with Artificial Intelligence

A brand-new student walks into a San Diego classroom—fresh across the border, speaking only Spanish. No prep. No warning. Just dropped off mid-morning with a “good luck.”What happened next? It’s the kind of story that reminds us why AI, when done ...

You ever had a student just show up in your classroom—no warning, no info, not a word of English?

That happened to Scott Reiter, a 5th grade teacher in San Diego. What happened next is one of the most powerful examples I’ve seen of AI actually working in a classroom. This student not only kept up—he led the pack.

No prep. No fancy setup. Just one kid, a translation tool, and a moment that changed the whole class.

Tomorrow’s episode of What Teachers Have to Say drops in the morning. Listen on your drive. You won’t forget this one

Spent our first day at The Show in San Diego—part of the ASU+GSV event focused on AI and education. We had real conversations with people doing interesting work, explored new ideas, and walked right up to the jagged edge of what’s coming next.

This kind of cross-pollination—teachers talking with developers, researchers chatting with classroom educators—is where the most exciting stuff happens.

If you’re here, come find us on the floor. And if you’re following along from afar, drop a comment—what should we ask tomorrow?

Behind the scenes: Nathan and I are getting ready to record tonight’s episode of What Teachers Have to Say. This one is packed with insights.

We’re breaking down everything we learned at the Stanford AI + Education Summit, but that’s not all. We’ll be sharing a new prompting strategy that’s been producing incredible results and exploring the shift from automation to augmentation in education.

If you’re curious about where AI in education is headed and how to stay ahead of the curve, this episode will give you a clear, easy-to-understand update on the current state of AI in education.

We’re recording soon, so if you have any burning questions or insights you’d like us to include, leave us a quick message on SpeakPipe and we’ll try to work it into the show. Don’t wait—let us know before we hit record!

We want to hear from YOU! Got a question, story, or idea sparked by our latest episode? Leave us a voice message—it might feature in a future show. Take your time to re-record if needed.
