Virginia SAR Hosts First Frontier Region Meeting
Wytheville, Virginia – August 15, 2026
The Virginia SAR Frontier Region held their first annual multi-chapter meeting on the
15th of August. Frontier chapters represented included Gen'l William Campbell, Col
George Waller, Lt David Cox, Martin's Station, and New River Valley. They were joined
by representatives from other Virginia chapters including Col James Wood II, Culpeper
Minute Men, Dan River, Fairfax Resolves, Fort Harrison, Sgt Maj John Champe, and
Williamsburg.
The Virginia SAR leadership attendees included State President Darrin Schmidt and his
lady Holly Lynne, First Vice President Ken Bonner, Second Vice President Randy
Atkins, Secretary Tim Dioquino, Chaplain John Kuvakas, and Color Guard Commander
John Lynch. We were also joined by past State Presidents Larry McKinley and Bruce
Meyer. The program began Saturday morning with a Pomeroy Foundation Monument
dedication at St John's Lutheran Church in Wytheville, VA, hosted by the New River
Valley Chapter and moderated by President Terry Blevins. Other Region officers in
attendance included Chapter Presidents; Rollie Nye, Lt David Cox, and Tom Coker, Martin's Station. We were also joined by local members of the DAR.
The morning event was followed by a noon luncheon, business meeting, and award
recognitions at the historic Bolling Wilson Hotel in Wytheville. The afternoon featured
Color Guard, Chaplain, and State Website workshops.
A terrific first meeting, and the Frontier Region is already working on plans for the next
meeting in 2027! Kudos to all, especially Compatriot John Gullion for all his efforts and
conducting a very successful meeting! Huzzah and huzzah!!
