Shep volunteered as a Cemetery Guide at Sinking Springs Cemetery for the Washington County Historical Society. He helped out and greeted guests for the Virginia 250 Mobile History Museum. Attended a workshop on historical interpretation in Williamsburg with a man who portrays Thomas Jefferson.

Members of our chapter support Black's Fort DAR Independence Day celebration at Sinking Springs Cemetery in Abingdon and go to Fort Whittin in Tazewell to educate the public with various activities. John Gullion gives a speech on the Battle of King's Mountain.

Over the weekend, members of our chapter helped clean up around Abingdon Muster Grounds and took part in the flag retirement ceremony with the American Legion Post 133 in Tazewell as part of the U.S. Army 250th birthday.

SAR wreath ceremony at Wilderness Road State Park and the Chapter’s President, Dr. Kevin Combs, presents United States Army Cadet Mason Lee the SAR Silver Medal at Emory & Henry College.

United States Army ROTC Cadet Thomas Peery was officially commissioned as a second lieutenant after his graduation ceremony at Emory and Henry College. Major General (Ret.) Rodney Fogg gave the keynote address at this function. Lieutenant Colonel Powell swearing cadet Peery into service. Sergeant Major Mike Swartz (Ret.) presenting the 1st salute to 2nd Lieutenant Peery.
