Most people have heard of Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) as the cause of “mono.” But here’s the truth that rarely gets discussed: EBV doesn’t always go quiet. For many, it lingers under the surface — quietly influencing fatigue, depression, hormonal chaos, autoimmune conditions, and even why some people don’t bounce back after COVID.

The frustrating part? Doctors rarely look for it, even when symptoms scream that something deeper is going on.

EBV 101: It’s More Than Just Mono
EBV belongs to the herpesvirus family. Once you catch it, you carry it for life. For some, it remains silent. For others, it reactivates, often after a major stress, infection, or life change, and becomes the missing link in chronic illness.

Stage 1: Primary infection — often mono, with sore throat, swollen glands, weeks of fatigue.
Stage 2: Latency — virus hides in B-cells, waiting.
Stage 3: Reactivation — triggered by stress, mold exposure, toxins, hormonal shifts, or another infection. This is where symptoms spread beyond the throat and glands.
