This is a rare moment when EASTSIDE INFORMER LLC agrees with former Anderson Township trustee Andrew Pappas. I am so glad we could find common ground on term limits for trustees.

We don’t need 16 years of Josh Gerth. It’s time to “get back to…regular life.” And that’s the

Spent the morning in Marcum Park in the City of Hamilton, Ohio and it is amazing how perfect PUBLIC ART looks in a PUBLIC PARK! Maybe Anderson Park District and Anderson Township, Ohio - Government can take note.

As of September 3, there were 37 backlogged cases in the Domestic Relations Court.

Of those, 29 were in Judge Sundermann’s courtroom. Collectively, those cases were an astonishing 941 days behind schedule.

That’s not just inefficiency, that’s a failure to serve families who are relying on the court to bring closure and stability to their lives.

Read the whole story from guest author Buckeye Brooke:

Hamilton County Domestic Relations Judge Betsy Sundermann has one of the worst attendance records on the bench, with 192 days out of office over three years and 941 days of backlogged cases. As she…

Trustee Josh Gerth, a commercial real estate broker, is accused of prioritizing developer profits over community needs in Anderson Township. From Beech Acres to Firehouse Fields, his actions have undermined trust, wasted resources, and sidelined residents. Voters are urged to elect Tom Hodges and Katie Nappi for transparent, community-focused leadership.

🎥 Caught on camera: Trustees Josh Gerth, Lexi Lausten, and Dee Stone show open disdain for the Park District — even berating residents at recent (okay … most) meetings. Gerth actually says we shouldn’t spend our tax money on things we want. Seriously? Taxpayers deserve better.

Make sure to vote Tom Hodges for Anderson Township Trustee and Katie Nappi for Anderson Township Trustee on or before November 4.

So many ways that Josh Gerth and the Victim Players could have sung a tune in the key of TIF. Keeping Tax Increment Financing (TIF) dollars in the township, especially a general township-wide TIF, should be a priority. Instead, they spent over $3M on decorating a highway interchange in Cincinnati.

Take a look at the top 10 list of ways that money could've been spent. 4 and 9 are BANGERS! But they all would have been better use of money.

Anderson Township Trustees have not been forthcoming about how the 3.2 million in landscaping could have been used IN ANDERSON instead saying the money had to be spent on landscaping. This is inaccurate, the 1994 TIF money (which comes from OUR tax dollars) could have been used to.

1. Help purchase Coney (which was purchased by the CSO in 2024 for 8 million)
2. Help the parks purchase additional land at Beech Acres which cost 6.3 million. This would lower the parks levy tax burden for Anderson Residents.
3. Build a sidewalk from Foxbrook Place to Five Mile Road, which would finish the connection of the eastern half of the township to the Five Mile Trail.
4. Help build an outdoor community pool at Beech Acres.
5. Build a Riverwalk alongside the Ohio River in Anderson
6. Bury utility lines on Beechmont
7. Build more Pickleball Courts
8. Improve the Kellogg park/ Dog Park
9. Make bike lane improvements
10. Purchase fire engines, ambulances, police cruisers, trucks, and snowplows

All of these improvements would be possible because Money from the 1994 TIF in Anderson Township can be used for public infrastructure, quality-of-life amenities, and economic development within the township, but not for general operating expenses.

Eligible uses for 1994 TIF funds

Quality-of-life amenities: This includes the development and maintenance of trails like the Anderson Trails network and Five Mile Trail, as well as the Anderson Center and Anderson Lake.

Public infrastructure: Funds can be used for improvements to buildings and grounds built or acquired with the TIF dollars and for roadway paving work.

Economic development: The TIF can be used to further economic development within the township.

Public safety equipment: A portion of the funds is used to purchase equipment for public safety, which helps extend the life of existing levies. This includes fire engines, ambulances, and police cruisers.

Recreation facilities: The 1994 TIF was used to purchase the Beech Acres RecPlex, an indoor recreation facility for the community.

Capital improvements: The funds are used for public improvements within the township, such as those on Beechmont Avenue.

What the funds cannot be used for

Salaries: The money from the TIF cannot be used to pay salaries or cover other operating expenses.

General Fund: TIF funds are restricted for specific uses and cannot be used for general discretionary spending that the Township's General Fund permits.

Tom Hodges for Anderson Township Trustee is the only one running with experience doing SOMETHING about v**e shops. If there is anyone to trust on this issue, it's him. Our current trustees throw up their hands because they simply just don't have this experience.

No smoke here! Just results.

Katie Nappi for Anderson Township Trustee knows TIFs. This hard working veteran will make sure that we are using TIF money thoughtfully instead of a slush fund to decorate a highway interchange in a different municipality.

There’s been a lot of discussion about how projects like the $3 million I-275/Kellogg highway interchange landscaping (in Cincinnati) and the $250K leaf sculpture at Anderson Towne Center (on private property) ended up funded with Anderson Township tax dollars.

Those dollars came from something called Tax Increment Financing (TIF). In simple terms, TIF takes increases in property tax revenue from properties inside special TIF districts and redirects that money away from the levies that residents vote on and into funds controlled by the Township Trustees. Our schools get their cut, but our park district, safety services, and county services like libraries, developmental disabilities, etc. don't get TIF dollars.

What you might not know is that residential taxpayers, not commercial businesses, are the primary source of TIF funds in Anderson. Nearly 70% of Anderson’s TIF dollars come from residential homes, including 14 houses in my own neighborhood. Some of these homes were built over 30 years ago but their tax dollars will keep flowing into the TIF budget until 2039.

Unlike levy dollars, residents don’t get to vote on whether TIF districts are created or how the money is spent.

But we do get to vote for the trustees who make those decisions. So let’s choose wisely.
