Do you remember when N. Main Street in Downtown Greenville looked like this? 😲

It’s hard to imagine now, but the ground where the Hyatt Regency currently stands was once a very different place. This photo captures a moment of transition—the end of a gritty era and the dawn of a new one.

Before the revitalization efforts took hold in the late 70s and 80s, this section of Main Street had a distinctly different atmosphere. This isn't the family-friendly, tree-lined downtown we know today.

Just look closely at the signs in this incredible historical photo (image_0.png):

🎬 "PARIS" – An old marquee for the Paris Theatre.

📰 "MAIN ST. NEWS - ADULTS ONLY MINI-MOVIES" – A very specific kind of adult entertainment venue that once marked this central location.

This image, with the heavy dump truck parked directly in front, shows the very beginning of the demolition that made way for the Hyatt project. This single development is often credited with kickstarting the massive revitalization of our downtown.

How times have changed! A huge transformation in a relatively short period.

Honoring a Legacy of Service

Hands-on Experience: Served on the frontlines of the Greenville Police Department, handling everything from immediate crime scenes to long-term investigations.

Cold Case Dedication: Even after retiring, Detective Christy continued serving the community by heading up the cold case unit on a volunteer basis to keep searching for answers.

A True Investigator: From analyzing critical physical evidence to conducting key interrogations, his work was central to bringing complex cases to trial.

Thank you, Detective Christy, for your decades of service and your ongoing commitment to seeking justice!

🚨 UNSOLVED: The 1998 Ambush on I-85 🚨

On August 30, 1998, Raymond Sean Malpica left Diamonds Showclub in Greenville, SC, carrying a briefcase filled with cash. He was heading down I-85 toward Georgia when a blue Mustang pulled alongside his car and opened fire with a semi-automatic r***e.

Ray was hit 7 times. Though he managed to escape his burning car and call for help, he tragically passed away in surgery later that morning.

Days later, the stolen Mustang was found torched in Travelers Rest, and Ray's empty briefcase was discovered near railroad tracks in Greer.

27 years later, his killers have never been caught. Someone knows something.
