People ask all the time, Why do Dobermans suck blankets?

I’ve read all kinds of explanations, but I’ve honestly come to the conclusion that Dobermans are just a little weird. lol There’s usually a comfort part of it. It can help them relax before bed or, with Bruce in this video, help him regulate himself when he gets overstimulated or excited.

It’s considered a self soothing/repetitive behavior, but because Bruce isn’t obsessive about it, it’s not really an issue for him. For Bruce, it’s become part of his bedtime routine, or something he’ll do to settle himself after getting worked up, like seeing a squirrel he wants but can’t get, or when new people come into the house.

The only thing I have to watch with Bruce is that he’s a chewer, so I have to make sure his blanket doesn’t turn into a snack that involves a vet visit.

Does your pup suck on a blanket, toy, or something else?

A lot of people commented that I was "teasing" Bruce in my last video. I get why it might look that way at first glance, but that's not what's happening.
This isn't about withholding a reward, it's about reinforcing behaviors he's already learned. We practice patience, impulse control, and obedience all the time. The goal isn't to frustrate him. It's to teach him that calm behavior, listening, and self control are always rewarded.
Impulse control is one of the most valuable skills you can teach any dog. It carries over into everyday life.
Training sessions aren’t always structured and ones like this are short, positive, and end with exactly what he was waiting for.
A well trained dog isn't one that obeys because they have to. It's one that has learned patience, self control and enjoys working with their person.

Remembering Ruby ❤️

Four years ago today, my heart was shattered in a way I never knew was possible. August 2nd will forever be remembered as the day we had to say goodbye to Ruby

On August 1st around 10pm , everything changed. Ruby suddenly went into an abnormal heart rhythm. We rushed her to the emergency veterinarian, praying for a miracle. Our greatest fear was confirmed, Ruby was in sustained ventricular tachycardia (V-Tach).

For the next 14 hours, an incredible veterinary team fought alongside us, doing everything possible to bring her heart back into a normal rhythm. We held onto hope, we prayed, and we waited for any positive news from the veterinarian. But sometimes love means making the most painful decision imaginable.

When there was nothing more that could be done, we made the hardest choice we have ever faced, to let Ruby go peacefully, surrounded by the love she had given us so freely.

Ruby was never just a dog. She was a member of the family. She was an ambassador for the Doberman breed, showing the world the intelligence, loyalty, beauty, and incredible heart that make these dogs so special. She changed minds, opened hearts, and inspired people everywhere she went.

To those who met her, she left a paw print that could never be erased. To those who followed her journey online, she became a reminder of everything a Doberman can be. Her impact reached far beyond our home, and her legacy continues to inspire people around the world.

Losing her was devastating but what brings comfort is knowing that Ruby’s life was filled with love every single day. She knew she was cherished. She knew she belonged. She left this world surrounded by the same love she gave so effortlessly to everyone around her.

Ruby, thank you for the memories, the sassiness, the laughter, the love you gave to this family and the countless lives you touched. You were a gift we were never ready to lose, but we will forever be grateful that we were lucky enough to call you ours.

Four years later, your legacy still lives on. Your story is still being told. You are still on our hearts.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Rubydoobydo. ❤️

Happy 4th Birthday to Bruce! 🎉🖤🤎

Bruce came into our lives at exactly the right time, and over the past four years he has become so much more than a beloved companion. He has continued where Ruby left off as being an ambassador for everything we love about Dobermans

Our goal has always been to showcase the true nature of the Doberman breed a confident, stable, intelligent, and versatile dog. Bruce has exceeded every expectation. Whether he’s meeting strangers at the beach, representing the breed in public, or competing in the ring, he consistently changes perceptions and demonstrates the sound temperament that define a well bred Doberman.

Bruce has earned his Championship, a working title, and the prestigious DPCA Register of Merit (ROM)-recognition that reflects both his quality and the dedication to preserving the breed’s purpose. But titles only tell part of his story. Every positive interaction he has with the public helps educate others and serves as a reminder of what this incredible breed is meant to be.

Happy 4th Birthday, Bruce. Thank you for continuing Ruby’s legacy and being the best ambassador we could ask for and for helping us celebrate, preserve, and promote the Doberman breed every single day. Here’s to many more years!

🦈 Shark Week 2026 🦈

Just when you thought it was safe to go to the beach. The ocean isn’t the only place where sharks are lurking.

This summer, the beaches have a new predator.

CH RDC’s Bruce You’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat is on the loose, faster than the tide, fearless in the surf, and impossible to stop. Once he is locked in, nothing will stop him from getting what he wants!!

Instagram vs reality. I guess 56 degrees is too cold for the little guy lol
