I posted this video a while back but wanted to bring it back to the top again. When I lost Ruby, I didn’t think I could ever open my heart again. Her love was so big that it felt impossible to imagine filling that space. Ruby wasn’t the first dog I’ve loved and lost though, and each one before her still holds a special place in my heart. I’m not trying to replace her because you never really can. You carry them with you and their love becomes part of who you are. When Bruce came into my life, he didn’t take Ruby’s place, he found his own. It’s a new chapter and a new kind of joy. Loving him doesn’t mean I miss Ruby any less. It means she taught me how to love even more.

Three years ago today was one of the hardest days of my life. We had to say goodbye to Ruby.
On the night of August 1st, around 9 - 10 pm, Ruby suddenly went into an abnormal heart rhythm. We rushed her to the ER, where our worst fear was confirmed, she was in sustained V‑Tach. Over the next 14 hours, the vet team did everything possible to bring her heart back to a normal rhythm, but nothing worked.

The hardest decision we’ve ever faced was accepting that nothing could change, and choosing to let her go peacefully.

Ruby was an extraordinary dog. Her legacy continues to live on. She educated people about her breed, brought joy to everyone who met her in person, and touched the hearts of millions who only knew her online.

This day will always be hard, but what helps me through is knowing how loved she was and cherishing the countless memories we shared with her. She lived, and left this world knowing nothing but love.

Thank you for being part of her journey and for keeping her memory alive

Bruce might look calm, but he’s locked in waiting for the release command. He’s ears catch every sound, eyes track every movement. Dobermans were bred to protect, so even when we’re lying down, they are working, ready to go. Structure, training and purpose aren’t optional for them, that’s what makes them thrive.
