After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Illustration, and working in both canvas paintings for interior designers and a small printing company, I settled into a 17-year career at first Penton Publishing, then Penton Media, Inc. I started as an Illustrator, but advanced to design and ended up taking my magazine through the process of being the first Penton publication to m

ove to the all digital printing platform. Since 2005 I have enjoyed a robust freelance career, and still work with some of the great Penton talent I enjoyed working with previously. My illustration background, technical skill, design ability and connections to some of the city’s finest illustrators, photographers and writers makes me uniquely qualified to get your project done perfectly and on budget.

23 years in the making, THE TRAGEDY OF MAN is the legendary Hungarian animator Marcell Jankovics’ sprawling, kaleidoscopic masterwork adaptation of the eponymous play depicting the creation and fall of Man throughout history. Broken into 15 different episodes (the segments were produced one at a time by Jankovics as he cobbled together funding), each section has a different visual style, incorporating a mind-blowing tapestry of world art, cultures, symbols, and rituals. The sum total of Jankovics’ cosmic vision of human "progress" is utterly surreal, psychedelic, operatic and Wagnerian: a breathtaking vision of Hell on Earth, with brief glimpses of Grace and Love which may offer hope for the future. Subtitles. 166 min.

In February 2019, MIT Technology Review published an article on the “hipster effect,” a Brandeis University study explaining why nonconformists ironically converge on similar styles like beards and flannels. A stock Getty photo of a bearded man in a beanie illustrated the piece, sparking unintended drama.

An angry reader emailed, accusing the magazine of slander and unauthorized use of his image in the “clickbait” story, threatening legal action. Editors verified the license with Getty, discovering the model’s name didn’t match—proving the complainant wasn’t him, hilariously validating the article’s thesis on hipster uniformity.

'The arts are prime targets for A.I.: they’re often mediated through devices, they’re intrinsically repetitive, and they’re available online for A.I. to study. And yet the best art is also idiosyncratic and original; we like it in part because we’re drawn to the people who’ve created it.'

We’re used to algorithms guiding our choices. When machines can effortlessly generate the content we consume, though, what’s left for the human imagination?
