Ohio Capital Journal: The Ohio Ballot Board blocked a proposed amendment that would remove Ohio’s ban on gay marriage in the state’s constitution from going forward.

In a 3-2 party line vote, the Ohio Ballot Board ruled the proposal actually contains two amendments, preventing it from moving forward to signature gathering.

Parker Heller, a Kent State University student from Solon, was surprised to receive a coveted invitation to perhaps one of the nation’s most prestigious and popular homes.

Walking through the gates and past the high-flying American flags, Heller felt a sense of accomplishment and excitement. As he gazed upward, he saw Secret Service agents and felt an increased awareness of where he was – the White House.

A group trying to repeal Ohio’s ban on gay marriage in the state’s constitution is one step closer to getting on the 2026 ballot.

Ohio Equal Rights, a grassroots movement, submitted 2,000 signatures to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose on June 30 and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost certified the title and summary language on July 3. They needed to submit 1,000 valid signatures from registered Ohio voters.

The fundamental education offered by public schools across the state could be drastically different next school year if a bill currently being considered by the Ohio House passes. Unlike other recent controversial school-focused bills passed by the Ohio Legislature, this isn’t initially about schools, it’s about taxes.

House Bill 335 which is being debated in committee would significantly change the way that public schools in Ohio are funded. The bill, which is sponsored by State Reps. David Thomas, R-Jefferson, and Angie King, R-Celina, would eliminate inside millage which is part of the property taxes that homeowners pay. The concept of using inside millage to pay for community services was added to the Ohio Constitution in 1934.

Change is not an easy thing. We all know it. I know there are plenty of people who think the Cleveland Browns moving to a dome in Brook Park is a horrible idea.

I will say it until I am blue in the face. I wish the Browns would build a retractable dome in downtown Cleveland. I also want to win the lottery, but some things are just not meant to happen.

President Donald Trump denied knowing that references to Shylock, an avaricious, Jewish money lender in Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice,” often reflect antisemitic views about Jews and money after the president drew criticism for using the term in a speech on Thursday.

At a “salute to America” rally after his “One, Big Beautiful Bill” passed both chambers in Congress, Trump said in Des Moines, Iowa, “No death tax, no estate tax, no going to the banks and borrowings from in some cases a fine banker and in some cases Shylocks and bad people.

In 2020, Trump's campaign slammed then U.S. Vice President Joe Biden for having used the same term. The post ‘Troubling, irresponsible’: Trump criticized for talk of banker ‘Shylocks’ appeared first on
