**Title: Discovery of Ancient "Dancing Moses" Statue in Turkey's Stratonikeia**
In a remarkable archaeological find, the statue of "Dancing Moses," a figure from ancient mythology, has been unearthed in Turkey's historic city of Stratonikeia after 2,175 years. This discovery, reported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is significant as it represents the only original Hellenistic sculpture attributed to the esteemed sculptor Philiškos, created in the 2nd century BCE. The "Dancing Moses" is associated with one of the Muses, offspring of Zeus and Mnemosyne, and highlights Philiškos's mastery in bronze sculpture, particularly in depicting athletes and gods.
While numerous Roman reproductions exist across Anatolia and Greece, this statue stands out as the sole authentic work from the Hellenistic era. Excavations conducted in the Roman bath's frigidarium led to the recovery of the statue and its pedestal, though the head and arms were missing. Despite this, the discovery remains vital in affirming Philiškos's artistic legacy within the ancient city. Stratonikeia, known as the "City of Gladiators" and listed on UNESCO's temporary heritage list, continues to reveal significant artifacts from various historical periods. The statue will be restored before its display at the Muğla Museum.
