The mom chat is open, and the doula is answering 👀🤱🏾
🍼 “He JUST ate. Why is he hungry again?”
Welcome to cluster feeding! During a growth spurt, your baby may nurse off and on for hours. It doesn’t automatically mean you aren’t producing enough, baby may simply be putting in an order for more milk.
🍼 “One b**b works harder than the other.”
Babies can have a favorite side because of positioning, comfort or differences in milk flow. Continue offering both sides, try different positions and remember: sisters, not twins 😂
🍼 “Breastfeeding hurts, but everyone says that’s normal.”
Some early tenderness can happen, but ongoing or toe-curling pain shouldn’t be ignored. Your latch, positioning and ni***es may need additional support.
🍼 “I pumped only two ounces. I’m freaking out.”
Take a breath, your pump is not a report card for your milk supply. Pump output can depend on when baby last ate, the time of day, your pump, fl**ge size and more. Babies can also remove milk differently than a pump.
You deserve support that listens to your concerns instead of dismissing them. Save this for the next time breastfeeding has you questioning everything, and send it to a mama who needs some reassurance. 🤎
In honor of , we’re creating the kind of mom chat where Black mothers feel seen, supported and informed.
For individualized concerns, connect with your healthcare provider or an IBCLC.
