Tuesday Tip: “Myself” Isn’t a Fancy Version of “Me”
Ever notice how myself suddenly appears the moment a sentence tries to sound more professional?
❌ “Please contact John or myself with questions.”
❌ “The report was sent to Susan and myself.
Here’s the trick:
Take the other person out of the sentence.
You wouldn’t say:
❌ “Please contact myself.”
You’d say: “Please contact me.”
So the correct sentence is:
✅ “Please contact John or me with questions.”
“Myself” is a reflexive pronoun, meaning it’s used when you are both the subject and the object:
✅ “I reminded myself to proofread.”
It can also add emphasis:
✅ “I edited the manuscript myself.”
