Tuesday Tip: “Myself” Isn’t a Fancy Version of “Me”

Ever notice how myself suddenly appears the moment a sentence tries to sound more professional?

❌ “Please contact John or myself with questions.”
❌ “The report was sent to Susan and myself.

Here’s the trick:
Take the other person out of the sentence.

You wouldn’t say:
❌ “Please contact myself.”

You’d say: “Please contact me.”
So the correct sentence is:
✅ “Please contact John or me with questions.”

“Myself” is a reflexive pronoun, meaning it’s used when you are both the subject and the object:

✅ “I reminded myself to proofread.”

It can also add emphasis:
✅ “I edited the manuscript myself.”

I am so blessed to be a mom to Jackie, Andrea, and Jason and Gigi to Asher, Sienna, and Vaughn.

Miss you Mom and Mama--here's to butterflies, purple, M & M's, and apricot strudel.

Homophones from Hell! 🔥👿

WEATHER vs. WHETHER 🌦️🤔
They sound the same—but using the wrong one can totally change your meaning.

Weather refers to conditions in the atmosphere—rain, sun, snow, storms, and everything in between.

Whether is used when expressing a choice or uncertainty—usually between two options.

Examples:
The weather looks perfect for a long walk today.

I can’t decide whether to start writing now or later.

Savvy shortcut:
If it involves the sky → weather 🌦️
If it involves a choice → whether 🤔

Otherwise, your writing might be under the weather… when it should be a whether situation. 😄

Honored and excited to attend Timberlake’s launch of her inspiring journal, The Passport to Radiant Health & Well-Being.
The cover, her own lovely artwork, sets the mood for a beautifully laid-out, meaningful series of pages designed to “Heal. Energize. Awaken.”

I’m privileged to have played a role in the editing/ proofreading of the journal.

Here’s to all the possibilities, Holly.

On April 11, I had the privilege of leading a memoir workshop with eighteen eager authors from the SaddleBrooke AZ Writers Group—and what an incredible experience it was.

Workshop: Turning Memory into Meaning: Crafting a Powerful Memoir

What stood out most? The energy in the room. The curiosity. The willingness to dig deeper into personal stories and transform them into something meaningful.

We had a lively discussion covering: 💬
• Favorite and noteworthy memoirs 📖
• Memoir vs. autobiography 🆚
• 7 common mistakes in memoir writing ⚠️
• Hooks and themes that pull readers in 🎣
• Memoir structure 🧱
• Scene development 🎬
• Navigating the use of names and legal considerations ⚖️

One of my favorite moments was hearing participants say:
“Wow… this is more complex than I thought—but I can’t wait to get started.”

That’s where real memoir writing begins—when challenge, honesty, and excitement come together. 🔥✍️

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to guide such a thoughtful, talented group of writers. Your stories matter, and I can’t wait to see what you create.

Homophones from Hell 😈✍️ (This one will give you a migraine!)

INSURE vs. ENSURE vs. ASSURE
Same sound. Very different jobs

💰 Insure = protect financially
👉 I insure my house and car.

✅ Ensure = make certain
👉 Please ensure all edits are complete.

💬 Assure = give confidence to a person
👉 I assure you, it’s handled.

Quick tip:
You insure things, ensure outcomes, and assure people.

Don’t let one tiny vowel cost you credibility 😏
