Such an incredible human. We will miss you.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the untimely death of our dear friend Carol Augusto. We know very little except that she was found yesterday in her bed, in her home in Mexico. It appeared to the neighbor who found her that she had passed in her sleep. Carol was a force in the beauty industry. No one was more passionate about it. She was recognized by Horst Rechelbacher as the first million-dollar sales person for Aveda. She served as the Vice President of Sales for Neill for many years, and more recently was the heart and soul of the Serious Business conference. It goes without saying that Carol will be deeply missed by all of us. We commit to carry her legacy forward.

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Rick Landry, a cherished friend, mentor, and invaluable member of the Farouk Systems family. Rick's unwavering dedication and visionary leadership as our former Chief of Security and VP of International Education have left an indelible mark on our hearts and the beauty industry.

Rick wasn't just a colleague; he was my first and last boss at a salon in Louisiana, who later became a dear friend. His passion, commitment, and boundless enthusiasm illuminated every corner of our company, inspiring us to strive for excellence and innovation.

As we mourn the loss of a beloved soul, let us cherish the memories we shared with Rick and honor his remarkable legacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Join us in commemorating Rick Landry’s extraordinary life and legacy.

Cosmo Prof’s 4th Annual World of Texture will take place on Monday, February 26, 2024. This virtual event aims to serve as a hub for students, professionals and educators to come together and deepen their understanding of texture and curl patterns. The curated content will help encourage and build confidence to help you explore a range of perspectives and strategies when welcoming new textured hair clients to your chair. Learn how to style, color and care for textured hair, especially tighter curl patterns such as 4a, 4b and 4c.

Classes will focus on textured hair expertise, including dry-cutting techniques, moisture retention techniques, best practices for coloring + highlighting type 4c hair, and product recommendations.

This year's special guest host is Celebrity Curl Specialist and Olaplex Educator Christin Brown. Brands hosting classes include DevaCurl, Olaplex, Wella, The Doux, Schwarzkopf and many more. Espres and Schwarzkopf's New IGORA Zero will also host workshops.

Attendees in select states will have the opportunity to attend their choice of 16 Continuing Education-eligible classes and walk away with up to 7 CE Hours.

Sport Clips Haircuts, a leading franchise dedicated to men’s and boys’ hair, is awarding up to 10 $5,000 scholarships for currently enrolled barber or cosmetology school students.

Sport Clips, with almost 1,900 stores with a presence in all 50 U.S. states and Canada, has awarded more than $152,000 in scholarships since 2007 to promote quality cosmetology education. The Sport Clips Scholarship Program was created to provide financial support to qualified students enrolled in American Association of Cosmetology Schools. The goal of the program is to help students gain skills, training, and education to begin a successful professional career in the ever-growing field of cosmetology.

“We’ve greatly increased the amount of these individual scholarships, because investing in the future of the haircare industry is vital to the continued growth of our business and to the careers of these talented individuals,” says Julie Vargas, vice president of career opportunities for Sport Clips. “Sport Clips wants to recognize students with a passion for hair who are investing in themselves through cosmetology education. It’s important to note that we’re not only contributing to their professional aspirations but also the overall excellence of the industry with these scholarships. And should they decide to come to work with us following graduation and licensing, we’ll have ongoing education and training along with the most comprehensive support programs of any haircare provider to continue to motivate them in their careers.”

Scholarships are offered to students in good standing with their current program, maintaining at least 80 percent attendance, an 80 percent grade average, and demonstrated financial need. Applicants must submit a video essay answering questions about their ambitions to pursue a career in cosmetology. These scholarships will be applied toward tuition and education expenses. No more than two scholarship recipients will be chosen from an individual school per year.

The Professional Beauty Association is thrilled to announce the 35th annual North American Hairstyling Awards finalists. NAHA honors the salon industry’s top artists who push the boundaries of skill and creativity.

The 2024 NAHA finalists have created awe-inspiring collections that captivate and inspire. To win a coveted NAHA award, artists submit their collections in their choice of fourteen creative and inspirational categories of hair, makeup, and education excellence. Development of these collections often takes months of envisioning, planning, and shooting. Collections are judged anonymously in three rounds by a panel of esteemed experts in hairdressing and makeup artistry, and are scored based on technical skill, cohesiveness and creativity.
