BREAKING:
Beauty Craft Inc., an independent distributor owned and operated by the Wexler family and based in Minnetonka, MN, has acquired the majority of the assets of Life of Riley Black Hills, LLC, based in Rapid City, SD. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. On closing, Beauty Craft will serve beauty professionals in 13 states—Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin—with 30 distributor salon consultants and 14 stores in total.

The transition will take place in two phases: Beauty Craft will take over the assets in Sioux Falls, SD, on June 26 and the assets in Rapid City, SD, on August 5.

Riley Salon Resources is not leaving the market and will continue to represent brands and service customers from its sub distributor and warehouse in Montana.

“We are excited to expand our footprint and store business in South Dakota. We will represent a robust portfolio of brands, including Oligo, Moroccanoil, Amika, Aluram, Olaplex, Living Proof, Aqua Extensions, Shibui, Stmnt, Amplify Extensions and many more,” says Adam Wexler, CEO.

Adds Ian Wexler, president, “We are grateful for this opportunity to build upon what Kelly Huether has created, and look forward to growing the brands, the sales team and the two store locations.”

Comments Kelly Huether, co-founder of Life of Riley Black Hills, LLC, “For decades, we’ve been friendly neighbors with the Wexlers, so it was a natural fit for them to expand their family-operated business to North Dakota, South Dakota, and the western edge of Nebraska. They have an excellent reputation for taking great care of their customers, which was super important to us, as we transition into retirement. Most of our employees will transition with the Wexlers, and we will work together to make it as seamless as possible for our valued customers.”

BREAKING: USA Beauty, LLC announces key leadership appointments, furthering its strategic goals for expanding the Premiere Beauty Shows/Premiere Show Group and Cosmoprof North America brands within the USA Beauty portfolio.

Liz Hitchcock, a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in the B2B and beauty industry, assumes the role of vice president of Premiere Beauty Shows. Her extensive expertise in event leadership, brand expansion, sales management and business development make her an ideal fit to spearhead the continual growth of the Premiere Beauty USA portfolio.

In her new capacity, Hitchcock will oversee the development and ex*****on of strategic initiatives aimed at expanding the portfolio’s market presence. She will also play a pivotal role in enhancing the reach of the brand, including the renowned beauty trade shows under the Premiere Beauty umbrella.

Liza Rapay has assumed a broader leadership role within the organization as vice president of Cosmoprof North America. She will continue to oversee the strategic direction and expansion of Cosmoprof North America's presence in the North American beauty market. With almost two decades of experience in the beauty industry, Rapay brings valuable knowledge and has cultivated strong relationships between the Cosmoprof North America brand and the industry (including brands, buyers, retailers, and press) during her nearly six-year tenure with the company. BREAKING—Some great news for cosmetology:
The Future of the Beauty Industry Coalition is partnering with the Council of State Governments and the Department of Defense to support the mobility of licensed cosmetologists through the development of a new interstate compact. This additional licensing pathway will create reciprocity among participant states and reduce the barriers to license portability and employment.

To that end, this week, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (R) signed HB 2781 - the Cosmetology Compact bill - into law. Tennessee is the seventh state to adopt the Cosmetology Licensure Compact.

The Compact has now reached the seven-state threshold required for launch. Compact legislation has passed and been signed into law in Alabama, Arizona, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, and Colorado. There are still active Compact bills in California, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Work will begin to get the charter set up, which will lead to license mobility for cosmetologists in those states.

UNIVERSAL LICENSING (MOBILITY)
Universal licensing legislation makes a state recognize professional licenses issued by other states—a shift that will remove regulatory red tape that can be an obstacle for out-of-state workers trying to get started in a new place. FBIC supports Universal Licensing.

In addition, in Nebraska, Gov. Jim Pillen signed LB 16 (Universal Licensing Recognition bill) into law. The new law will require all occupational boards to issue credentials based on credentials or work experience in another jurisdiction. So, Nebraska will recognize cosmetology licenses from all states.

In Missouri, Gov. Mike Parson has signed legislation into law that includes language recognizing similar “scope of practice” and “at the same practice level”. That means the Missouri State Board doesn’t have to compare and contrast the license requirements between their state and the states of incoming license holders, including hours. Missouri will recognize all cosmetology licenses.

The Professional Beauty Association's CUT IT OUT program provides licensed professionals, students, and others in the beauty industry with the resources they need to combat the widespread issue of domestic abuse. Stylists, barbers, estheticians, and makeup artists possess a unique ability to identify signs of abuse in their clients. By recognizing physical indicators such as bruises, as well as behavioral changes and self-blame, these professionals can play a crucial role in offering support and assistance. Salons and spas often serve as safe spaces where victims feel comfortable sharing their experiences and seeking help.

There are multiple ways to get involved in the fight against domestic abuse. Industry professionals can order materials from CUT IT OUT to display in their salons, becoming an ambassador for the program.

To equip beauty professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge, CUT IT OUT offers free training sessions. Participants learn how to identify signs and symptoms of domestic abuse, respond to victims with empathy and discretion, and refer them to appropriate safety resources.

Strength in Beauty CUT IT OUT grants are available for U.S. beauty industry licensed professionals who are domestic abuse survivors and in need of assistance in getting back on their feet, either financially or with employment.

CUT IT OUT welcomes monetary donations to support their efforts in ending domestic abuse. Contributions are tax-deductible and directly contribute to providing the program and materials free of charge. Sponsors include JCPenney Salon, K18 Biometric Hairscience, L’Oréal USA, SalonCentric, SportsClips and DaySmart Salon.

For more information, visit www.probeauty.org/pba-charities/.

If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship, you are not alone. Contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline now. 1.800.799.SAFE (7233) or text START to 88788.

Happy Hairstylist Appreciation Day!

04/25/2024

The Professional Beauty Association, whose mission is to advocate and fight for the rights and professionalism of the beauty industry, is proud to announce its continued support for hairstylists and other beauty professionals on National Hairstylist Appreciation Day.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the industry, PBA will award over $120,000 in scholarships in 2024 to assist cosmetology students and licensed beauty industry professionals in pursuing their career goals. These scholarships, generously sponsored by PBA member companies and the Joseph L. Weir Trust, aim to support both cosmetology students and licensed beauty industry professionals, allowing them to pursue their career goals without the burden of financial constraints.

Additionally, in their mission to elevate and unite the industry, PBA is a firm supporter and advocate for many charities dedicated to helping both hairstylists and those they serve.

"National Hairstylist Appreciation Day is a special occasion to recognize the talent, dedication and hard work of hairstylists across the country," shares Nina Daily, PBA executive director. "We are so proud to support and nurture the immense creativity and talent in the beauty industry and are grateful for the support of our generous members who provide the scholarships. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their passion and excel in the beauty industry, regardless of financial barriers.”

PBA Charities support the beauty industry and the professionals who serve it.

• CUT IT OUT is dedicated to mobilizing licensed professionals, students, and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse through awareness materials and training.

• With the Strength in Beauty grant, beauty professionals affected by domestic violence can apply for aid to help them get out of their abusive situations.

• The Disaster Relief Fund helps enable salon professionals to rebuild their lives following the devastation of a natural disaster.

PBA Members are awarded double the grant funding for these PBA programs, which are solely dedicated to giving back to beauty professionals in their times of need. To apply for PBA scholarships, or tolearn about sponsoring a scholarship, visit probeauty.org/scholarships.
