FORECAST DISCUSSION
Good morning, Northeast Georgia! ☀️ This week's weather story is a classic case of late summer warmth making a last stand before we see a shift towards more autumnal conditions. We are currently under the influence of a sprawling high-pressure system anchored to our east. This clockwise circulation will be the dominant weather driver for the first half of the week, bringing us plenty of sunshine and steadily rising temperatures.

As the week progresses, this high-pressure ridge will begin to weaken and shift, allowing a developing low-pressure system to approach from the west. This will lead to an increase in moisture and atmospheric instability, particularly during the weekend. The result will be a transition from sunny and dry conditions to an increasing chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, especially by Saturday and Sunday. The change will also be noticeable in the temperatures, which will peak in the upper 80s to near 90°F on Friday and Saturday, before a subtle cool-down begins on Sunday.

High 79°F / Low 62°F | Rain 10% | Conditions: Partly Cloudy 🌤️

A high-pressure system to our east will provide a comfortable start to the week. Expect mostly clear to partly cloudy skies with low humidity and a pleasant northeasterly breeze. A very isolated shower cannot be ruled out, but for the most part, it will be a beautiful day.

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025

High 82°F / Low 63°F | Rain 35% | Conditions: Partly Cloudy with PM Showers 🌦️

Thursday, September 4th, 2025

High 84°F / Low 66°F | Rain 15% | Conditions: Mostly Sunny ☀️

Severe Weather Discussion:

Our chances for widespread severe weather are low to non-existent this week. The high-pressure system dominating the first half of the forecast will suppress any significant thunderstorm development. As the pattern shifts towards the weekend, the primary threat from any storms will be from heavy rain and lightning. There is currently no expectation for organized severe weather, such as tornadoes, large hail, or widespread damaging winds.

Day 1-3 Severe Weather Outlook

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025

Overall Severe Weather: None
- Tornado Risk: None
- Hail Risk: None
- Damaging Wind Risk: None
- Flooding Risk: None

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025

Overall Severe Weather: Marginal
- Tornado Risk: None
- Hail Risk: Low
- Damaging Wind Risk: Low
- Flooding Risk: None

Discussion: Increased moisture and daytime heating may lead to a few stronger storms with gusty winds and small hail, but the overall threat is very low and isolated.
_______________________________________________________________________
Thursday, September 4th, 2025

Overall Severe Weather: None
- Tornado Risk: None
- Hail Risk: None
- Damaging Wind Risk: None

We'll enjoy several days of dry weather and abundant sunshine before a subtle shift in the pattern brings back a chance for pop-up showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. Be sure to stay hydrated on Friday as temperatures soar, and have your umbrella ready for the second half of the weekend.

It's that time of week again! It's time for a new Feature Friday !

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Northeast Georgia Weather Center's Feature Friday where we showcase talented photographers who capture mother nature's raw power for all of us to see.

This week, we're featuring the breathtaking work of Matthew Payzant of , a photographer who captures the raw, unpredictable beauty of storms and the skies above.

Matthew's journey into photography began when he was just fifteen years old. He discovered his first camera, a 35mm Pentax K-1000, and from the moment he lifted it to his eye, he knew he'd found something special. He spent his early days carrying that camera everywhere through the quiet fields and woods of Farmland, Indiana, capturing everything from butterflies on wildflowers to weathered barns on the horizon.

But it was the sky that truly fascinated him. Storms had captivated Matthew for as long as he could remember, and the idea of catching lightning on film felt like magic. He spent hours in corn and soybean fields, firing the shutter again and again, often with nothing to show for it. But every now and then, a single frame would reveal a strike—raw, jagged light frozen in time. Those rare successes fueled his passion and kept him chasing the perfect shot.

Now, at thirty-eight years old, hundreds of lightning strikes later, Matthew's passion for photography has only grown deeper. For him, it’s not just a hobby or a skill; it's a part of his soul’s mission. He believes photography is about showing nature as it truly is—tender, wild, and breathtaking, with no exaggeration needed. Just authenticity, and the reverence of someone who is still in awe of the world every time the shutter clicks.

FORECAST DISCUSSION 🌤️
______________________________________________
Good evening, everyone! Get ready to open your windows and enjoy some truly fantastic weather this week. The dominant feature of our forecast is a significant cold front that will be pushing through the region tonight and into Monday. This isn't just any front; this powerful system is bringing with it a large, unseasonably cool air mass from Canada, something we don't often see in late August. This will act as a broom, sweeping away the oppressive humidity we've been experiencing for weeks.

As this front passes, we can expect a noticeable drop in dewpoint temperatures, which is the key to that comfortable "fall-like" feel. The weather pattern across North America is set to change dramatically, with a large upper trough (low pressure) over the eastern U.S. and an upper ridge (high pressure) over the Rockies. This alignment creates a strong north-to-south flow, providing an unobstructed corridor for this refreshing Canadian air to spill into the Southeast. For us here in Northeast Georgia, this means a welcome break from the usual summer heat and a sneak peek into what the coming autumn has in store.

Once the front has passed, a strong high-pressure system will build in and dominate our weather through most of the week. This will result in mostly sunny skies, calm winds, and lower humidity. By Friday and into the weekend, the high pressure will begin to weaken and move east, allowing more moisture to creep back in from the Gulf. This change will bring a return of isolated shower and thunderstorm chances, along with a slight increase in humidity and temperatures. The overall trend, however, is a week of incredible weather.

SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK ⚠️
______________________________________________
The severe weather threat for the upcoming week is very low. The cold front on Monday is not expected to have enough instability to produce widespread severe thunderstorms. The primary weather process responsible for keeping our severe weather risk in check is the strong high-pressure system that will bring dry, stable air into the region for the majority of the week.
______________________________________________
Day 1 (Monday, Aug 25th):

Overall Severe Weather: Low
Tornado Risk: Low
Hail Risk: Low
Damaging Wind Risk: Low
Flooding Risk: Low

Discussion: The system is primarily a "humidity-buster" and not a severe weather producer for our area. Any storms will be isolated and non-severe.
______________________________________________
Day 2 (Tuesday, Aug 26th):

Overall Severe Weather: Non-existent

Discussion: A high-pressure system will be in control, bringing very dry and stable conditions. No severe weather is expected.
______________________________________________
Day 3 (Wednesday, Aug 27th):

Overall Severe Weather: Non-existent

Discussion: Similar to Tuesday, the high-pressure system will continue to provide stable atmospheric conditions, keeping the threat for severe weather at zero.
