While this author has long maintained that the *ton* possesses an insatiable appetite for the high-minded and the holy, it appears certain members of our esteemed community prefer their spirits elevated by rather more... illicit means. Word has reached my desk that our very own district clerk—a man tasked with the solemn duty of maintaining public order—has found himself in the tightest of constraints after being discovered in possession of an altogether scandalous quantity of a controlled substance. One cannot help but wonder: if those who pen our local statutes are so easily seduced by the forbidden fruits of the midnight hour, what hope is there for the rest of the flock? It seems the only thing more rapidly dissolving than the clerk's pristine reputation is the absolute composure of his closest associates, who are no doubt scrubbing their hands clean of this highly addictive mess.

It seems that even the most bustling of establishments can fall victim to the most minuscule of scandals. The ton has been abuzz with the startling news regarding our local Cheddar's.

While the kitchen was once known for its hearty fare, it appears they were hosting a few too many uninvited guests—and I do not mean the social climbers of the lower terrace. Health inspectors have shuttered the doors after discovering a most robust infestation of insects scuttling beneath the floorboards.

I suggest you seek your refreshments elsewhere. After all, a reputation, once tarnished by a swarm, is rarely ever polished back to its former shine.
