Despite #coronavirus restrictions, U.S. rice breeding programs continue albeit with a few changes. Mid-South programs depend on a winter rice nursery in Puerto Rico. California's efforts depend on one in Hawaii. Both islands have implemented 14-day quarantines for all arriving passengers. https://www.ricefarming.com/departments/feature/on-with-the-show/ #covid19

I Saw a Tractor Music Video | Parody of I Saw a Tiger by Joe Exotic | Tiger King

California rice producer and videographer Matthew Sligar has outdone himself with "I Saw a Tractor," a musical parody of "I saw a Tiger" from the Tiger King. It's nearly as good as his "I'm a Rice Krispie Treats farmer."

I Saw a Tractor official music video! This is a tribute to all the tractors out there in farmland. "Tell all the farmers that the tractors are in a little bi...

Rice growing well, planting continuing

Some good news: Many Louisiana rice producers were able to get their crop planted in a timely manner, and the crop has already germinated and is up and growing.

Louisiana’s rice farmers took advantage of good weather in March to plant much of the state’s rice crop. LSU AgCenter reporter Craig Gautreaux has this repor...

Despite what you see in the grocery stores, there's still plenty of rice. Mills make marketing forecasts and run their operations accordingly. When something like COVID-19 comes along and increases demand several times over, the supply chain needs time to react to restock shelves. Think of it as a family. You have two kids and a spouse, so you cook for 4. All of a sudden, 8 guests show up for meals. You're scrambling to feed them from what's in your fridge.

Crafted: JT Meleck

Louisiana rice producer Michael Fruge talks about how he wanted to add value to his crop and ended up distilling vodka and then whiskey made with rice. His brand, J.T. Melek, honors his great, great uncle John, who started farming near Branch in the late 1870s.

This episode of Crafted features J.T. Meleck Distillers, a South Louisiana distillery making craft spirits from rice on their family farm. With an abundance ...

Last night, we celebrated our 2019 Rice Consultant of the Year Cliff Mock from Alvin, Texas. As his wife, Beth, said, they've known some of their grower-customers for so long she thinks of them as friends rather than customers. Cliff also works closely with Texas A&M AgriLife and serves on a local water board. And thanks to @CortevaUS for sponsoring this award. Checking out some of the local festivities in south Alabama before the Rice Technical Working Group meeting starts tomorrow in Orange Beach. It's Mardi Gras season. I learned they throw Moon Pies and packs of ramen noodles from Mardi Gras floats in addition to the traditional beads and throws. Now all you need is some RC Cola to go with the Moon Pies.
