What have I been working on lately?

Downsizing my large storage unit into a smaller one to save about 44% on the cost.
How does this relate to the wargaming hobby? An embarrassing portion of the boxes and totes in there contain saved materials, bits, and miscellaneous items to make DIY terrain from. My tendencies to hoard things for the gaming hobby are not restricted to only miniatures. If I converted all of these materials into terrain, I'd have to give most of it away because I probably wouldn't have room to store it at home or in the storage unit.

If you want some random terrain materials sent to you for the cost of shipping, or if you are local and want to pick them up, let me know what you are looking for and we can work something out!

On the plus side, I've found several things to throw out, some things to give away, and several items to sell, so when I'm not reorganizing at the storage unit(s), I'm listing those things on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or Amazon.
The first way for followers to help support me in this endeavor would be to check my eBay listings at https://www.ebay.com/usr/r3newed

Thanks!

Hey GeekTinker community,

I need your help.

I have 55 followers here and seven (7) subscribers on my YouTube Channel with absolutely no videos posted. It's downright embarrassing.
My goal is to "start messy" and create several videos (6 to 10) to post here to launch the YouTube channel, then to post at least one video per week after that.

I need your help to hold me accountable to this goal. I'm tired of sitting on my back side and wishing about being a video creator while making excuses.

So feel free to message me and ask me about the progress on videos I am creating and don't stand for any lame excuses.

If you have any ideas for videos, post them in the comments!

My first video will be a short "about me" video to describe how I got into this wargames hobby and what this channel is about: the current state of my tabletop miniatures hobby and projects.

The next will be about how to get started in this hobby and pay for it without breaking your bank.

Another video will be about how to make lifelike trees for games terrain out of a free material.

Then I'll have a video about painting a unit of basic troops, such as Ork Boyz in Warhammer 40,000 (40K).

A video about painting terrain will follow that.

Then a video about painting a Gretchen or Grot unit for Warhammer 40,000.

And next will be a video about making playable DIY Terrain - or collecting the materials to make it out of - for the games.

I have more ideas for videos, but I won't bore you with a list longer than these seven.

Thank you,

Gene "Bean"

I found much more enjoyment in painting this unit of Gretchen with Contrast paints than they will likely find success on the table.
It also took far longer to complete them than it should have because other projects gained in priority.
After I paint some Ork Boyz, a vehicle, and elite unit, and a character, I'll return to paint the other 25 Grots that are primed and waiting.

My recommendation this week to my fellow hobbyist is this video from the YouTube channel Luetin09. This first video in this series about Warhammer 40K is quite a romp through the overview of what it means to be a part of the Warhammer 40K hobby.

I'm consistently on the search for a better way to transport my models, specifically my magnetized base Ork Horde.

I've currently settled on this combination of toolboxes from the HART brand, sold at Walmart. I found the main base unit as a set of 3 boxes in different sizes on sale at $59, so they may be discontinuing this line soon. I then added two more of the smallest most top box for $20.

The blue organizing boxes in them come out and could be used as organizers for my painting desk/studio. Most likely, they will end up as a base for some themed terrain, as upside down they provide some good line of site cover and it would be easy to build rooftop walkways between them.

All that is left is getting some thin steel metal sheeting cut down to the size of each box, and building multi-level shelves out of metal sheets mounted to thin MDF for the larger boxes.

I think it will hold a significant portion of my horde of 40K Orks, even the ones in my pile of opportunities. 😂

If I find a better way to transport them, I'll still have a cool toolbox for hobby organization.

Let me know in the comments how you transport your models and what army you transport in them.
