While Dungeon Genie is not meant to be a replacement for DM's it is built in a way that keeps context at the forefront of all of it's AI functions. SO what happens if we ask the Genie / Oracle to be a DM? As a fun test I recreated the world of everyone's favorite Barbarian and this is how it opened a first level adventure:

___________________________

DM: The air here hangs heavy, a thick tapestry woven from the pungent sweetness of exotic spices, the acrid bite of unknown fumes, and the ever-present, earthy tang of countless unwashed bodies. Above, a merciless sun beats down, but in the narrow arteries of the city, shadows cling stubbornly, offering only brief, fleeting respite from the heat. The shouts of merchants, the braying of pack animals, the ceaseless chatter of a thousand tongues, and the distant, tinny music of a street performer blend into a chaotic symphony that assaults the senses.

You find yourselves adrift in this seething metropolis. Perhaps you are seeking refuge, coin, or simply a fresh start, your past mistakes or misfortunes left behind in some distant land. You might be making your way through a bustling open-air market where stalls overflow with shimmering silks, polished blades, strange idols, and dubious remedies—or simply trying to navigate the bewildering maze of side streets in search of a tavern that doesn't reek entirely of stale urine and desperation.

As you round a particularly narrow bend, squeezing past a laden donkey and a cackling old woman selling roasted grubs, a sudden, sharp cry slices through the din. A merchant, stout and red-faced, clutches at his empty coin purse, bellowing curses. A young, wiry figure, impossibly swift, weaves through the throng with a heavy leather pouch swinging from his hand. He moves with the effortless grace of a city rat, ducking under arms and slipping between legs, his eyes alight with a mixture of terror and exhilaration.

The crowd parts reflexively, then begins to coalesce again, grumbling. But just as the pickpocket seems poised to vanish into a shadowed archway, a figure emerges from its depths. Tall, cloaked in dark, unadorned fabric that seems to absorb the light rather than reflect it, this presence is unnervingly still. There is no weapon drawn, no shouted warning—just a silent, predatory focus.

With a movement too fluid and swift to be entirely human, the cloaked figure intercepts the fleeing thief in a terrifyingly precise redirection of momentum. For a fraction of a second, the pickpocket is held aloft, his eyes wide with incomprehension. Then, a single, sickening snap echoes through the sudden silence.

The thief's body crumples lifeless to the cobblestones. The heavy purse tumbles from his slack fingers, landing with a clatter. The cloaked figure retrieves it and straightens, its face hidden deep within the cowl. You catch a glimpse of eyes—not human, but like polished obsidian, devoid of warmth or expression. They sweep across the frozen onlookers, then briefly linger on you.

Without another sound, the figure melts back into the archway's shadows, vanishing completely.

The silence lingers, broken only by the whimpering of a small child. The city watchmen are conspicuously absent, or pointedly staring at the sky and their boots. The air feels charged with a chilling, unspoken terror.

What do you do?

Player: Can I sell the body as meat somewhere?

DM: The thought, raw and pragmatic, hangs heavy in the sudden, eerie quiet of the marketplace. The air now carries a faint, cloying sweetness: the metallic tang of fresh blood warming under the relentless sun.

The pickpocket’s body lies slumped on the cobblestones, eyes staring blankly at the sky. While the city watch avoids the scene with almost comical diligence, the implication of the cloaked killer's obsidian gaze lingers as a silent warning etched into the memory of every onlooker.

Selling meat in Zamora is a common enough trade, but this is not the meat of a slaughtered beast. Even in this city of thieves and cutthroats, there are unspoken rules and terrifying powers lurking in the shadows. The heat of Zamora will not be kind to a fresh co**se; it will bloat and spoil quickly, and drawing attention to such a transaction carries severe risk.

Furthermore, the cloaked figure’s silent brutality and unblinking eyes evoke whispers of the serpent cult and their strange rituals—entities rumored to feast on far more than bread and wine.

Do you attempt to move the body discreetly toward the city's less savory quarters where questions aren't asked for the right price, or does dealing with the grim residue of serpent justice give you pause?

Player: Yes, I try to discreetly remove the body and take it to the slums. What do I need to roll?

DM: The immediate challenge is moving the dead weight without breaking the fragile illusion of normalcy the crowd is desperately clinging to. While the market is returning to its flow, any overt clumsiness around the co**se will draw unwanted attention.

To reach the deeper slums where questions are rare and discretion is valued, you must navigate a tangled web of twisting alleyways without catching the eye of city guards, local gang lookouts, or associates of the dead thief.

Describe how you lift and conceal the body, then make a Dexterity (Stealth) check, adding your Strength modifier to represent smoothly managing the dead weight.

Player: I roll an 11 on Stealth, and I have a 19 Strength (+4 modifier).

DM: With a Strength score of 19, you move with sudden, brutal efficiency. You step forward, hoist the pickpocket’s limp form from the cobblestones in one clean heave, and sling it over your shoulder. The dead weight settles with a dull thud, perfectly managed in your grip before anyone can properly react.

Your Stealth roll of 11 means you aren't invisible, but your speed—combined with the crowd’s desperate desire to mind their own business—prevents an outright alarm. Vendors drop their gazes and pretend to rearrange wares; a woman clutches her child closer into the awning shadows. The lingering terror of the cloaked killer grants you a wide, fearful berth.

You slip into the twisting labyrinth of the Zamoran slums. The shouting of the grand bazaar fades, replaced by the hushed murmurs of the destitute, discordant street music, and the stench of open drains. Buildings lean precariously overhead, blocking out the sun. In these squalid depths, carrying a heavy shroud or sack draws no second glances—everyone here has seen or done far worse.

You arrive in a damp, shadowed corner of the slums. The adrenaline has faded, and the co**se over your shoulder is growing heavier. What is your next move? Do you seek out a specific buyer, or search the body first?

Player: I search the body for any identifying marks, tattoos, or valuables. I roll a 21 on Investigation.

DM: With a 21 on your Investigation check, you thoroughly strip away the secrets of the dead:

Tattoos & Marks: On his inner left forearm is a crude, faded blue tattoo of a single serpent line coiling around a stylized eye or clenched fist. It is not the refined twin-serpent motif of the Cult of Set, but rather a low-tier cutpurse guild mark used by local Zamoran street crews for luck and territory identification.

Hidden Stash: Sewn into the small of his tunic lining is a tarnished copper coin and a smooth, uncarved bone shard used as a worry stone.

The Stolen Purse: A high-quality, heavy leather pouch secured by a fine silver clasp. Inside, you find:

3 Large Gold Coins: Far more wealth than a common street merchant carries, indicating the victim targeted a wealthy merchant or someone moving illicit coin.

A Ciphered Parchment: Thin, brittle, and smelling faintly of sweet perfume. Unfolding it reveals transposed Zamoran script with clear keywords: "Moonrise," "Midnight," "East Gate," and "Deliver to the Ivory Hand."

An Obsidian Scarab: A cold, masterfully carved black gemstone beetle whose unyielding surface chillingly mirrors the eyes of the cloaked killer.

Aside from these, he appears to be an ordinary street thief who snatched far more than he understood. You have the loot, the cryptic message, the obsidian scarab, and the co**se. What do you do?

Player: I take all the items from the bag, then carry the body to a butcher in this area to see how much coin they'll give me for it.

DM: Securing the pouch and strange trinkets, you haul the body deeper into the festering heart of the district until you locate The Ragged Meat-House—a sagging wooden abattoir built against the side of a decaying tenement. A solitary, fly-blown pig's head sits in the grimy display window, and the air reeks of old blood, grease, and strong chemical lye.

Inside, a hulking, balding man in a blood-crusted leather apron rhythmically brings a heavy cleaver down onto a scarred wooden block. This is Kaelen, the proprietor. His forearms are thick as gnarled oak, scarred from decades of butchery.

When you step in and state that you have something for him, Kaelen rests his cleaver with a dull thud. His bloodshot eyes slowly travel down to the co**se on your shoulder. Without flinching, he wipes his hands on a filthy rag, circles around, and prods the body with a calloused finger.

Lifting the dead thief's chin, he inspects the neck with a practiced eye. His brow furrows.

"Clean break. Snapped like a dry twig," Kaelen mutters, his eyes flicking up to meet yours. "Not a common street brawl. That's serpent's work."

He drops the head with a heavy thud.

"Dangerous goods. Takes work to make 'em anonymous, and more work to keep folks from sniffin' around. City watch will look away for a bribe, but there are other powers in this city who don't take kindly to their leavings being picked up."

He scratches his stubble and gestures with his cleaver toward the back table.

"For the meat and the risk, I'll give you two silver pieces. And a warning: if those snake-eyed bastards come asking, I never saw you, and I never saw this. Deal?"

Do you take Kaelen's two silver, or do you attempt to negotiate and press him for details on the serpent cult?

Ostracite Tribe and some other creatures of their realm.

The Ostracite realm is an oppressive, hyper-humid twilight world of subterranean Mire-Caverns and sunless, mist-choked surface basins where life thrives in constant dampness. Beneath ancient temperate rainforests, their deep cavern territory features towering dripping stalactites, glowing cyan and violet fields of bioluminescent moss, and terraced stone aqueducts carved directly into cavern walls to manage mineral-rich runoff. Above ground, surface tribes dwell in sunken valleys buried beneath rotting logs, peat bogs, and mud-flats, shielded from the deadly drying sun by perpetual fog and dense tree canopies. Every structure in this landscape—from mud-and-chitin dome watchtowers to carved subterranean sluice gates—is engineered to harvest moisture, harvest decaying organic matter, and channel water through a dark, moss-draped wilderness of mud, stone, and ancient decay.
