A coalition of 17 county sheriffs urged Gov. Jared Polis to resolve the Department of Corrections' backlog in inmate transfers and increase what the local officials described as the state's inadequate reimbursement rate.

“This is no longer a localized issue—it’s a statewide emergency,” the Sheriffs write. “We must work together—state and county leaders alike—to protect our communities, hold dangerous criminals accountable, and ensure the sustainability of our correctional systems.”

The letter was signed by sheriffs from the following counties: El Paso, Teller, Pueblo, Douglas, Lake, Weld, Cheyenne, Montrose, Gilpin, Otero, Fremont, Grand, Archuleta, Kit Carson, Conejos, Garfield, and Costilla.

A proud resident of Fort Lupton, Barron immigrated from Mexico as a child and now represents House District 48. With a background in business and leadership in the oil and gas industry, Barron brings a strong work ethic and conservative values to the Whip role.

Colorado may soon be home to six new U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, including two in Colorado Springs, according to federal documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The Trump administration has quadrupled the arrests of migrants in sanctuary state Colorado, data shows.

Federal data shows that in the latest period ending on June 10, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 1,355 people. That compares to the 342 who were picked up during the final year of the Biden administration. That is a 300 percent rise. The arrest rate has averaged about nine per day, according to the Denver Post.

Those taken into custody come from Mexico and Central and South America, as well as foreign countries including Afghanistan.
