Maria Bay, owner of CasaBay Photography, believes photography has very little to do with cameras.
She believes the strongest real estate brands aren’t built around looking wealthy—they’re built around being genuine. A first-time homebuyer needs someone who understands their fears and helps them navigate one of life’s biggest decisions.
Her sessions begin long before anyone stands in front of the camera. “My job isn’t to take photographs,” she says. “My job is to connect with people, understand their purpose, and create an image that helps them believe they can get there.”
She doesn’t believe people are born photogenic. “It’s a skill.” The first fifteen minutes of almost every session look the same: people are nervous, they laugh, they feel awkward. Maria teaches them how to stand, how to move, and how to stop thinking about the camera. Eventually, they forget they’re being photographed—that’s when she starts pressing the shutter.
“The goal isn’t to create someone they don’t recognize,” she says. “It’s to help them finally recognize themselves.”
