ORIGIN of Ronin “Linen”. Truth is, patterns—wood, fabric, or camos have been around in vector form for a long time. Linen wasn’t about reinventing patterns; it came from necessity. Without UV capability, I edited halftone effects in Illustrator and Adobe tools, then engraved finalized PNGs to create depth and multiple shade effects using my Xtool D1 10W. It worked but it wasn’t flexible.

So I moved the halftones into SVG.
That’s the shift, it’s editable, scalable, and easy for makers to combine and adapt. Halftones aren’t new, mainly used in screenprinting. I think using them intentionally for laser engraving workflows is, creating that linen, woven, and multiple shade effects.

It was made for underdog machines, but I have seen amazing work by UV printers and proven also with PVC—it’s not about the tool. This is plus for all makers, on all machines.
