I’ve had the privilege of photographing this beautiful family for nearly 10 years, and it is something I never take for granted. ❤️

One of my favorite parts of what I do is getting to watch families grow and change through the years — different ages, different seasons, different stages of life — and being there to capture each one along the way.

These sessions become so much more than photos. They become little pieces of a family’s story, and I’m so grateful to have been trusted to document so many chapters of theirs.

It’s pretty special to look back at where we started and see just how much life has changed.

Three months old and already full of personality.

This sweet little one came into the studio for photos and gave me the absolute cutest expressions—from curious little looks to the sweetest almost-smiles. At this age, their personalities are really starting to shine, and I love capturing all of those tiny expressions that change so quickly.

Today’s first birthday session was all about celebrating one amazing year of smiles, milestones, growth, and so many memories.

This “One Year Down” theme was such a fun way to mark such a big milestone. It’s always incredible to think about how much changes in that very first year — from those tiny newborn days to a little personality that is completely their own.

It’s been a little while since I’ve stepped out from behind the camera, so I thought it was time to reintroduce myself.

Hi, I’m Melissa — the photographer behind Life Photography by Melissa.

For more than 15 years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of photographing some of life’s most meaningful moments — growing bellies, brand-new babies, tiny milestones, graduating seniors, families, and everything in between.

Newborn photography will always hold an especially big piece of my heart. There is something so special about being trusted with those first fleeting days and creating photographs families will have long after those tiny fingers and toes aren’t quite so tiny anymore.

When I’m not behind the camera, I’m a wife, mom, business owner, and someone who truly believes photographs become more valuable with every passing year.

At the heart of what I do is something pretty simple:

I preserve the moments people never want to forget.

Some senior sessions are beautiful… and some are just a little extra special. ❤️

This weekend’s senior session was one of those for me. Watching this season of life unfold, capturing the confidence, joy, and personality that comes with it, made every moment feel that much more meaningful.

We headed into the mountains, stepped right into the water, and created a little magic along the way. I absolutely love how this image feels — carefree, joyful, and full of excitement for everything that lies ahead.

Senior year goes by so incredibly fast, but photographs like these give us a way to hold onto this chapter just a little longer.

Here’s to an amazing senior year and all the adventures still to come.

There is something so special about this season—the anticipation, the excitement, and the sweet little moments before a family grows by one more.

Big brother may not fully understand just how much his world is about to change, but before long, he’ll have a brand-new little person to love, protect, and grow alongside.

There is something so powerful about this image—the quiet connection, the strength of motherhood, and the beauty of a moment that feels completely untamed.

A mama, her horse, the mountains, and a storm rolling in behind them… it all came together in a way that feels almost cinematic. And in black and white, every distraction disappears and you’re left with the emotion, the connection, and the story.

Maternity sessions don’t always have to be soft dresses and perfectly posed moments. Sometimes they can be bold, a little wild, and completely true to who you are.
