I love Expedition 33! Absolutely deserved every award they received this year.

That said, can everyone stop referring to Sandfall as an “small Independent Studio?” They were started by a former CEO of Ubisoft. That’s the equivalent of them starting on 3rd base. Their estimated budget for the game is about $10 million, so yeah they scaled down the budget from a “typical” AAA game, but it’s still 3X the budget used for Hollownight Silksong. Yes they claim only 40 employees worked on the project, but that doesn’t include all of the contractors that worked on it as well. They also, admittedly, built the game on an already long proven gaming platform and foundation.
This was a masterpiece of a game, that was made with a vast amount of industry experience at its highest level. The story telling is peak! The soundtrack is absolute peak! The graphical style was perfectly designed for the tone and vibe of the game.

At the end of the day, this is the first major release from Sandfall. Let’s see what they do next, and let’s just enjoy this one for what it is 🙂
