The Life and Legacy of Shannon Rowe

Shannon Rowe's life was a profound testament to resilience, community service, and the quiet power of personal integrity. Born in March 1975 with a severe spinal condition - spina bifida - Shannon faced physical challenges from birth. Yet he lived a life marked not by limitation, but by purpose.

He was a lifelong member of the Jaycees, beginning as a junior member before becoming a vital contributor to many of the organization's efforts. Most notably, his dedication to the Adair County Fair was unwavering. Even in the face of intense physical adversity, weather, terrain, and long hours, Shannon participated actively, often seen navigating the grounds on his scooter, helping however he could.

His involvement extended beyond the fair. Shannon was a member of the original Adair County Rescue Squad. He was an active member of the Adair County Republican Party. He was held in deep regard by all areas of first responders who he supported. Members of the local fire and police departments appreciated his loyalty and strength of character.

Upon his passing in July 2024, Shannon's estate would make a substantial impact on the community he loved. Two major bequests were left to The Adair County Fair Association and the Crusade for Children.

These funds have already begun transforming the fairgrounds, particularly contributing to the construction of a new, larger arena, which will bear Shannon's name. While the humorous nickname "Catfish House" a nod to Shannon's local moniker was floated, the final name is still being determined with input from community leaders and family members.

Shannon Rowe's life was not marked by accolades or public recognition during his lifetime, but by consistent, quiet commitment to his community. His posthumous generosity and his enduring impact will live on in buildings and events, in memories, and in the hearts of those he inspired.

Winter storm taking power from several areas, the Annex on the Square in Columbia is open for any who need a warming station.

OUTAGE UPDATE 8:00 PM Fast time.

Please make preparations for an overnight outage if you are still without electricity. Our crews will be out tonight until 11 PM to midnight, then will be retiring for the night so they can start fresh in the morning. Bad weather is expected until early Monday morning and visibility is poor for our linemen.

Again we are working diligently at the office and out in the field to restore as many of our members as possible. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

We are looking for ambassadors for the Kentucky State Fair August 15th- 25th. Work our Adair county tourism booth for the day and talk all things Adair County! You get free passes to the fair and if you do multiple days you get your hotel covered!
