Someone needs to hear this:

If someone is treating you like you don’t matter…

WITHDRAW YOUR ENERGY.

If you’re not getting respect, you shouldn’t be putting in an effort. Give the same energy you’re getting.

You shouldn’t be the only one working at a relationship or friendship. It’s a two-way street.

It’s NOT 50/50. Both (or all) parties need to be putting in 100% in order for things to work.

Return the same vibes they’re putting out. If they wanted you in their life, they’d work harder at it.

If someone treats you like you don’t matter, don’t beg!

Don’t keep running back for scraps, hoping for something to change. Don’t let that person pull you in over and over, only to have them push you away and treat you like garbage.

YOU DESERVE MORE.

You deserve respect.
You deserve kindness.
You deserve to receive the same energy you’re putting in.
You deserve empathy.

You don’t deserve to be treated poorly. You don’t deserve to be treated like you don’t matter. You don’t deserve to be treated transactionally.

YOU MATTER.

And if you’re in a relationship or friendship where you’re being treated without respect, where you feel like your energy is not being returned, or where you feel like you’re just another checkmark on a list, or a transaction that’s been completed…

YOU NEED TO MOVE FORWARD!

It’s time to make a decision.

Do you stay? Do you go?

Are you happy where you’re at?
No - then GO.

Are you being treated right?
No - then GO.

Are you appreciated?
No - then GO.

Are you respected and valued?
No - then GO.

Are you SEEN…and HAPPY????
No - then GO!

GO! Move forward, without that person (people) making your life difficult.

Move forward and away from the one(s) who doesn’t treat you right, who doesn’t appreciate you, or respect you, or see any real value in you.

Move past those who don’t make you feel SEEN (and understood) or make you truly HAPPY.

All of these things are important. To you. To me. To EVERYONE. And if you’re in any kind of relationship or friendship that has those red flags, those things you’re not getting…it’s time to make a decision and move on.

Yes, it’s going to hurt. You’re going to overthink it. You’re going to pick up the phone a thousand times wanting to send a text, make a call, hope they’ve texted or called. You’re going to hurt when there’s nothing there.

And that’s OKAY. If you invested any amount time in a relationship, it’s going to hurt and it’s okay to hurt, to want SOME of what you had back.

But don’t EVER go back to what you had.

Someone needs to hear this:

Relationships require give and take. One should not always be taking, expecting the other to give.

It’s okay to get angry. But is it valid anger, or projected anger? Are you angry at the other person, or yourself, and you’re just turning that anger outward?

It’s okay to be sad. But you’re responsible for your own happiness, no one else’s.

It’s not okay to be mean or ugly. It’s never okay to bait someone into arguments.

You can’t bring up a subject and then get mad when the other person wants to talk about it.

There’s an old saying that goes: don’t dish it out if you can’t take it.

When you’re constantly angry, or sad, or mean, or ugly…when you bait someone but can’t follow through on the debate, when you dish out the sarcasm but get mad when it’s returned…that’s poison to your relationship.

All those things…death by a thousand paper cuts.

Walking away from disrespect is NEVER a loss.

Being told you’re “less than”…that you’re not enough…that’s disrespect.
Being lied to…that’s disrespect.
Being shamed…yup, disrespect.
Being made to feel stupid, uneducated, silly, fat, skinny, anything…that’s all disrespect.

And walking away from someone who has done those things to you is not a loss.

You’re choosing you.
You’re choosing peace over angst.

You’re strong, and you’re better because you chose to walk away.

Dang…this one hits. Been working for years on finding the right people to surround myself with! And it’s HARD.

It matters who you choose to surround yourself with. You’ll talk how they talk, and you’ll treat others how they treat others. You’ll absorb a bit of their general attitude towards life whether you mean to or not. Surround yourself with believers, and dreamers, and do-ers. Surround yourself with people who shine, and who give, and who radiate with love. Surround yourself with the true ones, and the grateful ones, and the ones who know how to be genuine.

This came up in my personal memories today. It really hit home.

I’m always in the mindset that I’m failing…that I’m not doing it right. That I just keep making the same mistakes. Over. And. Over.

It’s hard to remind myself that I’m doing my best. That I’ve always given what I can. It’s so much easier to look around and compare to others.

I admit it: I have a short fuse. It’s easily lit. I keep trying the “Let Them” theory, and I struggle with actually letting it go.

But I am doing my best.

And that just has to be enough for today.
