Why I think motivation is crap!
I'm listening to another podcast from Scott's Bass Lessons that is reaffirming my mindset around motivation. Yes, it's a podcast about bass guitar but this can be applied anywhere in your life. (Impact Theory is another great podcast that talks about this, episode #184)
Where does motivation come from? What causes it? Why do we not feel motivated at times?
We continually beat ourselves up when we aren’t practicing or working on something. We feel UNMOTIVATED. Is it motivation that drives us to do something? No, it’s deeper than that. It’s a goal that we have in mind, a gig that we have to get ready for, it’s something that DRIVES us. Drive is what keeps us going. I have been putting more focus on what drives me and what I want to accomplish.
Creating this page is a primary driving force that gets me to practice every day. I want to put out quality content in the form of videos and recordings to be able to market myself when meeting new people in the industry. I want to be able to connect with people. Sitting in my room practicing scales for no reason wasn’t working for me. I needed a bigger purpose. With the recent move to Columbus, I am focusing on networking and meeting new people. If anyone is going to hire me, I have to have my chops together and quality content to view.
If you have had experiences or thoughts on the matter, let me know in the comments
