Our beloved city is a puzzle when it come to architecture. The Schofield building was built in 1902. In the 1960s it was covered with granate and metal facade to hide the exterior that needed repair. Well lo and behold, after the owners of the Kempton Hotel decided to take a look at the condition of the bricks by pulling down some of the facade they discovered the remaining historical material qualified them for a state and federal tax credit. It took time but it was completely restored in 2017. Downtown Cleveland used to have the most stunning buildings that were torn down that are now recently more appreciated. Many pre-war buildings are being loved on and revived as beautiful living spaces or hotels.

TALL. STACKS.. During the festival, which was held every three or four years along the Ohio River, vintage and replica steamboats would dock along the Ohio River shoreline in Cincinnati and across the river in Northern Kentucky.

The first Tall Stacks celebration was held in 1988, as part of Cincinnati's bicentennial celebration. Five subsequent festivals were held throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s.

The last festival was held in 2006. A Tall Stacks festival was planned for 2009, but was canceled abruptly due to lack of sponsorship.

Back in 1967 I was 18 years old, just about ready to graduate from LHS and couldn't wait to get out of smallville Lancaster.
I enlisted into the Navy under the 90 day delayed program on May 14th of that year and left for Boot Camp, Great Lakes, Illinois September 6th.
My first duty station after Boot Camp was Naval Receiving Center, Brooklyn, NY for a year, woo-boy, talk about a culture shock for a corn fed hand spanked country boy. Next was Class "A" Personelman School, Bainbridge, MD for six months.
After that I was transferred to the USS St. Louis LKA 116 pre-commission detail, Newport News, VA. After commission we embarked to homeport Long Beach, CA via Panama Canal.
From Long Beach we started cruises to South East Asia, Vietnam, Philippines, Hong Kong, Nagasaki, Japan, and Okinawa.
On July 23, 1971, after being discharged, I returned back where I started, Lancaster, Ohio.
After four years away, I couldn't wait to get back to "smallville" and a normal life. In all honesty I haven't left Ohio since.

Hi ... I've lived across the river in Newport most of my life. This is one of my favorite views of downtown Cincinnati because it includes the house tops of our small town as well. I'm almost 72 and a proud mom and grandma. As a kid in late '50s early/'60s we frequently took a bus to downtown for shopping (usually Shillito's) or a matinee. ☺️💖

Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself and share a photo of where I'm from. I am from the muddy banks of the country Ohio. A little village called Powhatan Point. This is one of my favorite pictures of the river looking south from Bridgeport to Bellaire. You can see Wheeling Island and the bridges that cross.
