Had a simple assignment that I decided to make more complicated. Because well... why not?

This short film captures a quiet morning routine in real time. A tattooed veteran in his 40s, dressed in a dark t-shirt and khaki hiking-style pants, moves through his kitchen at dawn. He prepares a simple breakfast of coffee and a toasted bagel with cream cheese. The camera lingers on small, intimate details: the cupboard opening, the coffee brewing, the fridge door closing, the bagel popping from the toaster. A brief moment of realism unfolds as he burns his fingers on the hot toast before carrying it to the counter to spread cream cheese, the knife softly scraping against the crisp surface. Finally, he sits at the table, sets everything down, pulls out his phone, and takes an expressionless bite. A calm, serene melody overlays the natural sounds of the kitchen, creating a meditative glimpse into solitude and routine.

Dove into new territory this week: filmed one of my oldest friend grinding through some strongman prep. Weighted pull-ups, split squats, and stone lifts for good measure. What’s the toughest lift you’ve nailed lately?

A lot is happening in the camera world right now. Here’s my take:

FX3 killer? I think the Nikon ZR is more of a ZV competitor than a rival to hybrid-cinema cameras like the FX Series. I was blown away until I asked myself, “What’s the catch?” The Nikon looks amazing at face value. But once you look under the hood, you realize it has a micro HDMI, a single SD slot, and…. no fan. It overheats in about 14 minutes at 40°C, as proved in his review. While that might be hot for some users, it’s common across the southern or western US.

So as things stand, the Lumix S1II is probably still the best option from a spec standpoint. But what do you think?

Got this little gem in and I’m already in love 😍. I’ve started playing around with it, and wow… this global shutter is a game changer. Zero distortion, lightning-fast capture, and some seriously cool creative possibilities. I can’t wait to push it to its limits on upcoming projects.

Who else has had hands-on time with the A9 III? What’s the wildest thing you’ve captured with that global shutter?

I’ve really grown to love these Sony/Zeiss lenses. This partnership has produced some truly magnificent results. Sony’s incredible technology paired with Zeiss’ renowned optics is just a beautiful combination.

This 50mm is no exception. At f/1.4, it delivers gorgeous depth of field, tack-sharp subjects, and that signature Zeiss color rendering. It’s quickly becoming one of my go-to primes.
