Tomcat

Fortitude Valley, Queensland Australia
4.5/5.0 ⭐️
Reviewed as an indie/grunge dive bar and music venue with loud live bands, cheap drinks, late-night chaos, and a comeback story that gives the place even more character. Tomcat in Brisbane is the kind of place that proves a bar can get knocked down, but still come back louder, more energized, and more alive than ever. After a fire at a neighboring store forced Tomcat to close in Dec 2024, this Fortitude Valley staple has officially risen from the ashes—and somehow feels even more like the soulful, beat-up, heart-thumping dive you didn’t know you needed. They’ve officially been reopen since last week and the Brisbane community could not be more excited! Walking in, you get that perfect dual-identity vibe: half music den, half dive bar, full of character. The walls are worn, floors scuffed, neon glows, posters of bands and graffiti art is everywhere. The front door doesn’t really look like the entrance to a bar. It’s covered in graffiti and the only identifier is the neon “tomcat” sign above. Walk up those stairs and live music hits you first. Rock, punk, indie, metal—whatever the lineup, it’s loud, raw, intimate, and always within arm’s reach. This isn’t a “stand far away and sip politely” spot. It’s a “lean in, spill a drink, shout the lyrics, and high-five strangers” kind of room. And when the music stops, Tomcat still feels like home. They even have a full service bar and a pool table room. Cheap drinks, late-night chatter, and the perfect place to lose track of time. If you’re in Brissy and want a bar with character, community and a comeback story, Tomcat is your go-to!
