Tuesday night, I was honored to be included in this year’s Inspiring Women class and recognized alongside 20 incredible women who are making an impact across our community.

This recognition reflects the influence of so many people who have had such a profound impact on my life, and sharing this experience with them by my side made the night even more special.

Congratulations to my fellow honorees, and thank you to Columbus Monthly Magazine and Columbus CEO for a wonderful evening.

One year ago this week, we published the first episode of Six One Forward.

A year before that, I recorded the very first podcast episode with my friend Jim Lenner. We sat in the back of his pickup truck in the middle of a field next to the Intel site. It was blazing hot, the audio was terrible and we had to cut most of it out because we fumbled and laughed through most of it.

Today, Six One Forward looks really different but the reason behind it remains the same: having conversations with the people building, planning, and moving Central Ohio forward and making those conversations accessible to those that live here.

We think it has to be big or all-consuming to matter, when in reality it usually starts much smaller.

Judge Laurel Beatty Blunt's early connection to the legal field began in a law office her father built after encountering barriers in his own path through law school and into practice. Rather than accept the lack of opportunity available to him, he created a space that allowed other black attorneys to work and build their careers. That environment became a formative part of her early exposure to the law, and taught her how the law impacts lives.
