Girls, let me tell you something: your body is not your enemy.
Trends always run the block and circle back. Unfortunately one of those trends finding new life is extreme skinny culture & body shaming. I grew up in the VS supermodel tumblr th*nspo era as a girl who has never been naturally thin and it took me until now (30) to feel the most confident and comfortable I ever have in my skin. Here is what I have learned that I hope you can take in instead of the dangerous tabloid headlines:
1) Time keeps moving whether you are gaining weight, losing weight or maintaining weight. Don’t let your life pass you by waiting for a certain number on a scale or the tag of your jeans.
2) You can want to change and love yourself where you are. It is okay (and honestly so normal) to want to change things about yourself whether it’s clearer skin or a firmer tummy or more toned arms, but while you’re working toward those things you can and SHOULD love yourself through the process. You don’t have to hate who you are in order to work toward being better/different.
3) The little girls are watching and it’s not just about what we say TO them, but what we say about ourselves AROUND them. Whether you are a mom, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, a teacher, a coach etc the way you love on or degrade yourself outloud becomes internalized standards on body, hair, skin etc so act accordingly.
When you’re in your last days the cellulite and stretch marks won’t cross your mind, but every trip you didn’t go on, event you didn’t attend, and opportunity you didn’t act on because of something as trivial as those “imperfections” will. Make it a life worth living and a story worth telling in whatever form carries you through it 💞
