"A Maritime Mood" Grand Barachois NB Canada
Well looks like spring has been replaced this year. After waking up and seeing more snow and slush from yet another dump of winter I decided to go into the archives to find a bit of spring to post on this Apri Fools day. This is a favorite spot of mine to photograph when in the Maritimes, there is usually a small sail boat parked but this day empty. Aside from the black flies that take a quart of blood per second it was just me and the pup. Looking forward to heading here again in May. Have a great weekend and lets hope the warmer weather coming this week will melt every speck of snow and we can be done.

As I headed out last night to capture the sunset I decided on going to the marina. I have shot this location many times during all seasons, my favorite time to go here is usually when the fog rolls in. Seems like this year the misty mornings are are hibernating. Soon the docks will be filled with boats and activity. The bit of open water and warm weather is a sure sign that summer is on the way, and I couldn't be happier! stayed here well into the blue hour taking various shots of the changing colors. I spent the good part of yesterdays early morning sky show on the coast to try and get away from all the snow we have here in the Lakes Region.
This was a 20 second exposure captured on the opposite side of the ocean in a little marsh at around 6:30 ish. Afterwards I headed on to Hampton for some ocean shots and a little beach therapy.
When I got home I was going to post this but was too distracted looking at all the photos that were captured of the Northern Lights from some amazing New England Photographers. Corey Cain Photography Marie Sapienza Kevin Hart Photography A G Evans Photography and Heidi Kroll's Photography out of Alaska are just a few that produced some of the most jaw dropping Aurora light show photographs I have seen. "Empty Boardwalk" Weirs Beach Laconia

When I first started College for Photography unknown to me it was the last year it was being taught on film before transitioning to Digital. At first I felt ripped off, like I have to do a few more years??? but honestly it was the best thing, best of both worlds so to speak. Being in the darkroom waiting for the film to be done, hoping that you didn't have to redo the assignment because you blew your exposures, (getting studio time and models at school wasn't easy) then exhale because you were spot on, dodging and burning, so many hours but the end result seeing what you created... well no words. Did I enjoy having to do more school for digital a few years later, nope not at all but what I learned in the darkroom is basically what is done now. The darkroom now is a digital darkroom. There was a time all I saw was Black and White when looking at scenes, I miss that. Over the next little bit I am going to be adding some black and white to the page, its not for everyone but I need to get that rush back that seems to have hidden away. This was shot last year or so and while I enjoyed it color I feel the scene deserved a monochrome finish because that's how I saw it then. Have a great week, spring almost here... figure if I keep on saying it eventually this snow crap will be done.
