July 26, 1951 – Happy Birthday, Corporal Bruce Arnold Bain
He never wanted a parade.
He didn’t ask for medals.
But when his draft notice arrived—because of his birthday—Bruce Bain answered the call without hesitation.
Born on this day in Taylor, Michigan, Bruce Arnold Bain was drafted into the U.S. Army through the Selective Service. He began his tour in Vietnam on July 16, 1970, as a Light Weapons Infantryman with B Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division.
Just eight weeks later, on September 10, 1970, in the deadly hills of Binh Dinh Province, Corporal Bain was killed in action by enemy small arms fire. He had just turned 19.
Nineteen.
He should’ve been at home—celebrating a birthday, chasing dreams.
Instead, he was halfway across the world, walking point through jungle heat and rifle fire.
Today, we remember Corporal Bain on what would’ve been his 74th birthday.
A life cut short, but a legacy etched forever in honor.
