Just 20min for Myrtle Beach, we sat down with Mrs. Jacobs to share her story.

She grew up on the farm and has been cooking since she was old enough to stand on a milk crate to reach the stove. She protested in the 60s for equal rights in the rural town of Loris, SC along with her co-workers at the sewing plant for equal pay.

She feared that she would lose her job but she believed that the collective cause was greater than her fears.

She is the proud Grandmother of the Higher Ground Documentary's Producer, Whitney Anderson and Researcher, Karen Anderson Crummy.

We're 1 year stong working on the Higher Ground Documentary. The first shoot location took place at the 2020 March on Washington in DC.

Almost 60 years following Martin Luther King Jr's iconic March on Washington, where he delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech.

It was an honor to stand in the place that so many once stood in to fight for black lives. We continue the fight.

The first film slated to be released by East Side Labs is the social justice film, Higher Ground Documentary, which is supported by the University of Southern California - School of Cinematic Arts.

With filming locations throughout South Carolina, this timely project poses the question, "Have we reached Higher Ground in the state of South Carolina or is there more work to be done?" Join us on the multi-generational journey that highlights the often-overlooked stories of black people in SC.
