Kudos to the Iowa Crappie League's Nick Stupka and Dan Brus for stopping by the Des Moines Izaak Walton League Tuesday, April 7! They gave us some good tips! What kind of line do they use...20 lb. braid! That surprised us, but the reason is to haul slabs out quick when they get in the brush. 18' rods for major reach. And sonar: Nick and Dan use Live scope, for the imaging power, but they don't generally run their all the other sonars that they have in the boat. My snooping online says fish can potentially feel/hear the ping in their lateral which can spook them...makes sense and squares with what I've seen on the lake at times. Hadn't thought of that, but worth remembering. They also talked about upcoming tournaments, rules, costs, weigh-ins and rules. 2026 schedule is finally approved! $50 membership, $100 per boat entry fee. Will be a cash prize for Angler Team of The Year, as well as an additional $500 cash divided up between the top 3 finishers at all 5 regular season tournaments! More to come!

It's been awhile since I've done a post so I figured I'd share some work that I've had done on the boat during the cold season. I just got my seats back from the upholsterer. I used a place called Boat Drunk Upholstery located just south of Peoria Illinois. They did a killer job and even installed a key/coin box with cup holders offered by Tiny Boat Nation. I didn't want to go with an aftermarket seat because I didn't feel like they have very good fit and finish as well as color match issues. The boat is so nice with low hours that I wanted to add something that would fit the quality. The original seats weren't that bad yet, but the vinyl was getting brittle and starting to tear very easily. Can't wait to get these installed and get back on the water very soon.
