Another Liberian In History

Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana is not Ghanaian but a Liberian born to a Liberian father known as Kofi Weah, and Nyaniba, the woman we have been reading in the history books as his mother rather adopted Kwame Nkrumah when he first came to Ghana, A former Gold Coast Politician, Joshua Attoh Quarshie, has alleged.

According to him, the Catholic missionaries in Gold Coast looked for Nyaniba to care for Nkrumah when he first arrived in Ghana with his briefcase.

"Nkrumah is Liberian and not Ghanaian.. his original name is Weah, Francis Weah... no one knows his mother... Nyaniba was a barren woman who had no child and they used to carry some sticks at the back..." he said on FootPrint on Citi TV.

Mr Attoh Quarshie indicated that Kwame Nkrumah had some artificial cousins like Obed Andoh, Aya Kumi among others.

He stated that as ungrateful as Nkrumah was, he did not acknowledge one Ga man known as Paa Solomon who gave him a place of abode at present day Lagos town.

"Blankson-Lartey's house is the place Nkrumah used to go and eat and the first cloth Nkrumah put on was the Ashanti Kente which belonged to Blankson-Lartey... Nkrumah came with a briefcase, he had no potomanto [portmanteau], nothing," Attoh Quarshie remarked.

Anthony M. Fofana, Chairman of the Blogger Association of Liberia and CEO of Gossip Liberia, pens a powerful and wisdom filled message, stating:

The Hard Truth About Liberia's Entertainment
Industry

The sad reality of our poverty isn't just a lack of money it's the lack of value we place on each other's work.

Too often, those we helped rise now act like we were never part of their journey. They forget the hands that lifted them, and instead of building bridges, they burn them.

In this industry, we've helped many - before their names meant anything. Now that they've made it, they disrespect, ignore, and even try to erase the very people who paved the way. Instead of gratitude, we get envy. Instead of support, we face mockery.

Liberians are quick to use each other to climb, but slow to reach back and uplift. We love to celebrate downfall more than growth. Even those who claim to "help" use it as a show, not genuine support.

I've worked with the big names from entertainment to politics and business and the pattern is clear: we are divided, bitter, and selfish. It's not the old leaders destroying the country; it's the same wicked spirit living in the youth, wearing new faces.

Until we change this mindset - until we learn to value, support, and honor each other - we'll keep blaming while staying stuck.

And Liberia's entertainment industry will continue to suffer not from lack of talent or opportunity, but from the poison we pour into ourselves.

Cralorboi CIC writes:

“It should be about the culture than just making it all about OURSELVES❗️

We are all a piece of this puzzle and there are several others that need to be placed on the table to complete the picture we’re all trynna paint.

Day by day, we invest more into tearing down years of what we’ve all tried to build for selfish gains and yeah… I’m part of the problem too. We all are❗️

We’ve been more divisive and egotistic than being brick layers for a better future. This ain’t about artists alone, event planners, DJs, Promoters and etc are all contributors.

This isn’t the industry we all envision and I take my own share of responsibility for it as we’ve allowed individual differences suppress the good in us. We’ve been shaking up the wrong tree the entire time to prove irrelevant points.

People around us prolong feuds cuz it benefits em and the biggest losers are US❗️

Industry stakeholders sit on the fence and watch cuz the politics of it are most times favorable to em.

I asked myself what lessons are we leaving for young entertainers to learn from? It was never the true intent of why I opted to do music.

My album announcement write up was coded? Yes… cuz I’ve been on meds for a period now and if all don’t go well, I may need surgery and I don’t even know my chances of singing again. I kept that away from everyone cuz I’m a soldier and God got me. I needed no public pity or people thinking I needed to create a buzz around my album which I’ve stayed away from all my career cuz I believed in pure music.

It’s time to get back to the drawing board and reshape things for the better and I’ll start with me opting for a round table talk with anyone who I’ve had or presumed we had issues. The olive branch is extended 🫶🏽

God bless this land we all call home 🇱🇷”
