🚒 Exploring careers in the fire service!

A big thank-you to Chief Chris Kelly and the Corinth Fire Department for welcoming ACTC students and providing a valuable learning experience!

Students have been studying the fire service hiring process, requirements for entering the Mississippi Fire Academy, and state physical fitness standards. This visit brought those lessons to life as students heard firsthand from professionals about pursuing a career in the field.

As part of their class project, students are also preparing presentations to share with their classmates and completing a job application, cover letter, and résumé.

We appreciate Chief Kelly and the Corinth Fire Department for investing in our students and helping them prepare for their future careers!

🚔 Learning What It Takes to Serve! 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

Students in ACTC’s Law & Public Safety program have been learning about the hiring process and physical fitness requirements for becoming a police officer in Mississippi.

Today, students had the opportunity to hear firsthand from Corinth Police Department Major Ben Moore and Officers Eli Buse and Shyanne Middleton. They shared their knowledge, experiences, and valuable insight into the requirements and realities of pursuing a career in law enforcement.

We are grateful to our community partners who take the time to connect with our students and bring real-world career knowledge into the classroom!

🌟 Connecting the Classroom to Our Community! 🌟
Mrs. Tomlinson’s Lodging, Hospitality & Tourism students welcomed Mrs. Christy Burns, Executive Director of Visit Corinth, to ACTC today!

Mrs. Burns shared how local attractions and tourism play an important role in Corinth’s economic development. Students learned how attracting visitors to our community generates revenue and supports local businesses, restaurants, hotels, attractions, and other tourism-related industries.

Through this real-world connection, students gained valuable insight into how tourism contributes to the growth, success, and economic impact of the Corinth community.

We love seeing our Work-Based Learning students put their skills into action, gain valuable workplace experience, and grow in confidence and professionalism.

Today, our Health Sciences second-year students had the opportunity to learn from the caring professionals at Gentevia Hospice as part of their Human Growth and Development unit, which includes the topic of Death and Dying.

We were grateful to welcome Cindy Killingsworth, Volunteer Coordinator; Amanda Mauney, RN; and Caitlin Buchanan, LPN, who shared valuable insight into hospice care and the end-of-life process.

Students learned about:
🩺 The benefits and requirements of hospice care
❤️ End-of-life care and patient advocacy
🌎 Caring for a diverse patient population
🤝 Volunteer opportunities for students ages 18 and older
