This morning, NASA astronaut Nichole Rhea Ayers captured a stunning and extremely rare phenomenon from the International Space Station—a gigantic jet. These extraordinary lightning events burst upward from the tops of thunderstorms, shooting all the way into the ionosphere, the outer edge of Earth’s atmosphere.

Unlike typical lightning, which strikes between clouds or down to the ground, gigantic jets travel skyward, reaching astonishing heights of 45-55 miles. It’s a powerful and awe-inspiring reminder of just how dynamic our planet’s atmosphere can be.

Now you know...

Last Storm Update - 7-3-2025 - 3pm PDT -

Discussion: Severe Storms have developed along I-15 through Las Vegas, moving eastward with time. Damaging winds and large hail will be the main issues with them.

This was why the Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued this morning here at Las Vegas Weather Force. This was the first Severe Thunderstorm Watch of this page, which showcased the forecast style and accuracy for storms. Congratulations those of you in Las Vegas, you officially have been calibrated in the in-house models to predict with precision.

Storms will weaken as the evening comes along with more stable air coming in out of the west.

Yesterday evening, I issued a Weather Advisory for today's events for thunderstorm chances. - Link - https://www.facebook.com/lasvegasweatherforce/posts/122094568622938062

This morning I looked at my numbers and did have to upgrade the advisory to a Severe Thunderstorm Watch - Link - https://www.facebook.com/lasvegasweatherforce/posts/122094917192938062

Dust Storm Watch Issued For Maricopa and Pinal County With Mogollon Rim Thunderstorms Moving In; July 1, 2025

Arizona Weather Force has issued a Dust Storm Watch effective Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, for the following zones;

Issued Authoritative Weather Service:
Arizona Weather Force

Issued Zones: Maricopa and Pinal County …

Date Issued: June 30th, 2025 at 10:00am PDT

Watch Discussion: Increasing monsoon moisture in the area will be present, with a taste of it today with isolated shower/thunderstorm activity in Southeast Arizona. Deeper moisture will be available on a northeast to southwest flow for your Tuesday. Instability will be increased in the higher and lower terrain. The high terrain, Prescott, Flagstaff, Mogollon Rim zones will have explosive thunderstorm activity during the afternoon. This will shove outflow southward from them and eventually into the low terrain of both Maricopa and Pinal County, including Phoenix, possibly affecting airport operations at times during the evening hours. With this outflow boundary in the area, we could even have pop-up thunderstorms in the Dust Storm Watch zones, which is usually what happens with higher instability days and outflow moving through. Additional watches/advisories are to be issued on Tuesday morning outlining this event.

A Dust Storm Watch is issued here at Arizona Weather Force when outflow from thunderstorms moving near or overhead produces a dust storm that would reduce visibility to near or at zero. Dust Storm Watches could contain pop-up thunderstorms as well. Weather Alerts at Arizona Weather Force are private, issued ahead of time to the public by AZWF as the lead-time is extremely important to you.

So for this next monsoon flow during the first part of July 2025, enjoy the free trial and take advantage of all it has.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI ZONE ...

National Weather Force’s Central Plains Weather Force sector is zoning in on a severe weather event that warrants attention for those in or around the Kansas City, Missouri forecast zones for June 29th and into overnight hours, but also zones for the following areas;

KANSAS: Northeast and East.
MISSOURI: Southwest, West, Northwest and Central.

Central Plains Weather Sector - https://www.facebook.com/centralplainsweatherforce

A weather system that is currently affecting South Dakota and Minnesota this evening will move southward over the night, and then into the focus spot of this forecast for later Sunday. What we have here is a system that will round the developing high pressure system over the four corners, which will bring a due north to south flow across the region. Ingredients to look for with this event will be the high instability factor, which will drive rapidly developing thunderstorms. The low-level shear is also in play, which will up the tornado potential. Another thing that will bring the severe thunderstorms through the area that evening and overnight will be the strong upper-level divergence (lift) above 25,000 ft. This forms directly over the system.

Severe Thunderstorm and/or tornado watches will be needed for this event, so for further interests in or around the focus zone surrounding Kansas City, Missouri, continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Arizona Weather Force has issued a Flood Watch and Monitoring Zone Forecast effective Friday, June 27th, 2025 for the first week of July, for the following zones;

Issued Zones: Pima,Santa Cruz, and Cochise County, including Tucson Metro

Date Issued: June 27th, 2025 at 9:45am PDT

Watch Discussion: Developing tropical activity south of the area will bring the dynamics for increasing moisture out of Mexico. This moisture will arrive during the first week of July, with a target of July 2nd through July 6th. Rapidly developing severe thunderstorms will be capable of heavy rainfall within a short period of time. The peak of this will be around later 2nd through July 4th, which puts Independence Day activities at risk.

REST OF ARIZONA: While this official Flood Watch is going to start in Pima, Santa Cruz, and Cochise County, trends will continue to be monitored for convective (thunderstorm) activity for areas around Pinal, Maricopa, Yavapai, Coconino, Navajo, Apache, Gila, Graham, and Greenlee Counties. Additional forecast updates will be available as we get closer to the flood watch window, in order to expand alerts. For now, the shaded light blue zone is the monitoring zone for additional upgrades.

This is a Raiden Storm Pattern (See Reference A).

A Flood Watch is issued at Arizona Weather Force when conditions are possible for storms, bringing high rainfall rates in a short period of time, covering over 50% of the watch zone. A Flood Watch can be replaced by a convective watch, such as a Thunderstorm, Severe Thunderstorm, or Tornado Watch during the morning of the event. Flood Watches at Arizona Weather Force are private, issued ahead of time to the public by AZWF as the lead-time is extremely important to you.

Severe Weather and Tornado Setup For The Evening and Night of June 27, 2025; Dakotas On Target

National Weather Force’s Northern Plains Weather Force sector is monitoring an upper-level low coming out of the Pacific Northwest for Friday, June 27, 2025. This system is similar in zonal-flow and upper divergence (lift) to one earlier this month across North Dakota.

Northern Plains Sector - https://www.facebook.com/northernplainsweatherforce

At the current time, many sources are not looking at this as a strong tornado event. However, given the zonal flow pattern, with strong instability and lift, we will be seeing the chance of discrete supercells that will bring the good chance of damaging winds, large hail, and large and extremely dangerous tornadoes.

National Weather Force will continue to monitor this setup, which again is slated for the Dakotas, but centering South-Central North Dakota on the evening and night of Friday, June 27th, 2025

160 mph winds hit North Dakota night of June 20th, 2025

A major complex of severe thunderstorms moved through North Dakota on the night of June 20th, 2025. This happened to also be the day of the June 20th, 1957 Fargo F5 Tornado.

Sector Affected:
Northern Plains Sector - https://www.facebook.com/northernplainsweatherforce

During the couple days before it, alerts from private owned weather service National Weather Force issued an outlook for the region for all modes of severe weather, including tornadoes.

On the morning of the 20th, National Weather Force finally issued the Tornado Watch, giving plenty of lead-time for the event to come. This tornado watch outlined the main event would be the damaging winds.

160 mph winds were recorded near a radar site in Eastern Montana that night, with widespread damaging that of a hurricane through the region.

"Given the shear, tornadoes, some strong will be possible with it. However, the main concern will be the damaging winds associated with it. Without tornado potential, this would be the Enhanced Severe Thunderstorm Watch, the highest severe thunderstorm watch at the National Weather Force." - is what the official National Weather Force's wording stated.

Storms did indeed move east through Minnesota overnight, and exited through the Great Lakes during the morning of the 21st.

Alert Type: Tornado Watch

National Weather Force has issued a Tornado Watch effective 6pm today, until 5:00am, Saturday, June 21st, 2025, for the following zones;

Issued Sectors:
Northern Plains Sector

Issued Zones:
NORTH DAKOTA: West, Southwest, South, Southeast, East, and Central.
MINNESOTA: West, Northwest, North, Northeast, East, and Central.

Date Issued: June 20th, 2025 at 6:25am CDT

Discussion: A ridge of high pressure south into the Great Plains will be responsible for tow factors. One, the strong west to east flow within the northern periphery of it – and also carving a trough to the west, impacting the Pacific Northwest today. This trough of low pressure will be the lift source that will move out of Montana this evening, igniting severe thunderstorms in Southwestern North Dakota. This upper lift will continue moving eastward with time, becoming an overnight event for the Eastern half of North Dakota into Minnesota. Given the shear, tornadoes, some strong will be possible with it. However, the main concern will be the damaging winds associated with it. Without tornado potential, this would be the Enhanced Severe Thunderstorm Watch, the highest severe thunderstorm watch at the National Weather Force. But because tornadoes are likely with this system, a tornado watch will do. The storms will vacate Eastern Minnesota by sunrise Saturday morning.

A Tornado Watch is issued at National Weather Force when conditions are possible for tornadoes. A Tornado Watch can come in two alerts, a regular watch for tornadoes, or the Enhanced Tornado Watch for a more severe outbreak of them over a wide area. Severe weather with large hail, damaging winds, and flooding also accompany these watches. Tornado Watches at National Weather Force are private, issued ahead of time to the public by NWF as the lead-time is extremely important to you.
