A Louisville draft ordinance promising to protect transgender residents from state and federal crackdowns is heading to a committee hearing this week. But the debate over whether it will actually help — or hurt — the community it aims to protect is far from settled. Trans community members and longtime LGBTQ+ advocates say the draft is too vague, too risky, and wasn't built with enough community voices. Story by Divya Karthikeyan.

Happy Pride Month from Q***r Kentucky!

To kick things off, we're revisiting this beautiful piece by Jules Crawley on what Pride really means for trans and nonbinary people in rural Kentucky. This story explores the joy, community, and life-changing moments that happen when you finally find your people.

Whether it's your first Pride or your fifteenth, we hope you feel seen, celebrated, and reminded that you are not alone.

In a political climate that's actively trying to erase LGBTQ+ Kentuckians, data about our existence is one of the most powerful tools we have.

The 2026 Q***r Kentucky Health Survey is live now. More than 4,000 Kentuckians have already participated since 2024, and unlike a lot of research, this data comes back to our community- used by journalists, researchers, and advocates telling our stories.

This survey tracks belonging, discrimination, health access, harm reduction, and the real impacts of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on our lives. Your responses matter.

Be counted.

REMINDER: The 6th Annual Pride Party with is almost here, and we still can't believe it's happening.

In 2025, our funding was cut 42%. We made hard decisions just to keep the newsroom running. But our Bedfellows (our monthly donors) gave us the cushion to say yes to joy anyway.

This party is theirs. And yours. Don't miss it.

When Josie, a middle school student in Union, KY, was asked to find an unsung hero for the national 2026 ArtEFFECT competition, they chose Freida Belinfante. Belinfante was a Jewish le***an woman who played cello, conducted orchestras, fought the N***s in the Dutch resistance, and ultimately immigrated to the US where she continued her musical career, refusing to let the Holocaust define her ending.

Josie's tribute? A hand-crafted dress. A rainbow painted between ruffles along the neckline, hidden like so many who couldn't be open about who they were. Foam pages down the left side, each one illustrating a chapter of Freida's remarkable life.

"Frieda Belinfante's story is just one of thousands of others who didn't let others break the foundation of their courage," Josie writes.

The body of Murry Foust, a 22-year-old trans student at Northern Kentucky University, has been found after a weeks-long search.

According to the Covington Police Department, an independent search party located Foust's body in an industrial area near Wilder in Campbell County, KY.

Foust was a senior in NKU's College of Arts and Sciences and would have graduated the weekend of May 8. Authorities say there are currently no indications of foul play, and the coroner's report is pending. Our hearts go out to Murry's family, friends, and community.
